Annihilation bear is to this day still the scariest, most unsettling thing I've ever seen in a film at the theatre, from a movie full of unsettling things. It was seat-clenching-flight-response-engaged-writhing-in-discomfort-nopenopenope to the MAX.
i love it sm lol
@robinmoblin You're right, I should have said I specifically didn't see it that way. If there's ppl out here that are Arab and they're offended by it, then they get to be! I don't mean to imply people can't feel offended. I just wanna have discussions. My B.
@chaiileaftea@Error_0101@SlLENTPRINCESS I dunno! Maybe you should ask some Christians or something, I'm sure some of them would be able to answer you. Also, I don't think Japan counts as Western culture. Pretty sure it's not, but I don't wanna assume lol
@chaiileaftea@SlLENTPRINCESS I also said some other stuff too! About reclaiming and retooling old ideas in a modern world where people can use critical thinking to tell the difference between games and complex, nuanced real life cultures. Also, as I was corrected earlier, it's Arab cultures, not Arabic!
@NeelSoraOuranos@SonicOnRitalin Well I def agree that cultures shouldn't be sexualized. No argument there.
Buuuut in fictional media set in fantasy settings, it's different. Imo. Like, to me the gerudo are fine, but something taking place in a fictional version of our world, wouldn't be ok.
@NeelSoraOuranos@SonicOnRitalin Hmm. I know the male gaze itself is bad, but what about women/others that like women? What about women who wanna be more sexual or have more sexuality in the media they make and consume? It shouldn't come at the cost of misrepresenting irl cultures ofc, but in fiction?
