@Student_DOctorD @RedStethoscope I shared with my mom my apprehensions about trying for a first pregnancy and my wonderful, supportive mother was straight up like “I won’t even be excited, terrible time to have kids, world’s going to heck,” etc etc. 😔
Today’s grumble is about people who don’t share recipes. Why would you NOT? Like if I find a new amazing flavor combo I am almost immediately group texting GUYS YOU MUST TRY THIS DELICIOUSNESS, LET IT ASSAULT YOUR TASTEBUDS like why hoard good recipes instead of share?!
Why are all of these Christmas babies CHONKS WHO WILL EAT THE OTHER BABIES I swear, at this point I’m grateful for anything under 9#, my dystocia rate for the week has been like 30%.
It’s not good to be that person who aspirates one of those sour chewy sweet tarts in the middle of a pandemic, on call, and is hacking their lungs out as everybody skirts them with horrified looks. It’s not Covid, ma’am, it’s my poor dietary choices.
@carolinedavismd I ran into this with a breast biopsy test other day. Performing doc told her it was cancer and SHE needed to find an oncologist. She called us in a panic and I hadn’t even gotten her results yet. 10/10 did not appreciate. I like to have a plan when I break that sort of news.
If there are any Fam Med medical students who didn’t match, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in KY had an intern position open at this very moment. In case anyone is looking!
@piripiribiryani You know, some of the larger NICU’s do have volunteers whose only job is to come and cuddle the babies. It’s a thing. FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.
My DO student is super polite, seems very smart, and ya’ll I handed him a baby while I did notes at the nurses station and fifteen minutes later I turn around and he’s just...gently stroking her hair with this look on his face and it was adorable.
Just so nobody freaks out, the baby is waiting on our L&D for her forever home and we are all trying to cram as much rocking and cuddling in as we can, so she starts her life feeling loved.
It was also his first time holding a newborn and I am proud to say he rocked it.
@Miriannie_ Why is this so true?! I drank NOT EVEN a whole bottle of water today and that was almost a 100% improvement. Like I feel accomplished and it is ridiculous.
Hour 38 of 48;
The pager keeps going off.
Sleep consists of a few snatched moments that fragment into yet another call from L&D.
The lounge pop tarts are starting to look like real food.
And I just AROM’d someone with an AFI of a gazillion, and man. No prolapse.
12 hours.
@Chantal_Mendes@Blewett17 The program will let me assign them a half day for reading/study. I figure I’m give them a topic or two and cut them loose at noon on Friday, or whatever day of their choosing. Ya know, because wellness. It’s amazing what good catching up with the laundry does for the mind.
Guys I get my own medical student! Going to start having DO students rotate with me next week. Obviously, I need to feed them. Any other good advice for the Care and Training of Med Students?
