The core element of web3 gaming is, well, the game itself. When the financial aspect overshadows the gameplay, it can lead to a lack of engagement and enjoyment.

Games primarily designed as investment vehicles rather than entertainment can struggle to retain players.

Another failure point comes in Unsustainable Economic Models where many GameFi projects have unsustainable tokenomics, where token value is maintained by the influx of new players. This can lead to a collapse once player growth stagnates.

What I think is needed for success? (my 2cents)

Successfully integrating Web3 into traditional games requires a strategic, player-focused approach that carefully balances enhanced gameplay with equitable economic systems.

Key to this integration is:
1. Seamless implementation of technologies, like NFTs, which should complement rather than disrupt the core gaming experience.

2. Education and ease of use are crucial, ensuring players comfortably navigate new Web3 elements.

3. Sustainability and long-term value must be at the forefront of Web3 features, avoiding pay-to-win models and ensuring fair play.

The number of well-funded blockchain games that are opening their doors to the public with playable builds is swelling.

It feels like 2024 might actually be the year that broader player sentiment shifts and attention flows back toward gaming.

Nowhere else is this feeling stronger than in Asia. Fresh from two of Asia’s largest crypto-focused conventions, Korean Blockchain Week and Token 2049, we wanted to take the time to highlight some of the most promising blockchain gaming projects from the region that we have been tracking.

As we go on to outline in this report, it is clear that the number of builders and consumers actively exploring the intersection between blockchain and gaming in this region outpaces all others.
