Has anyone else checked theirs? If you go to https://t.co/Nrf5zxhdF4 from your phone’s browser and search for “Cambridge Analytica” it is the first option: How can I tell if my information was shared...
In light of all the FB news and learning the truth about digital security/privacy from this course, I couldn’t help but feel a little relieved at seeing this:
@e_fengos i think it depends on how unbiased the summary is! sometimes you just want to have the information as quickly as possible (our generation is typically like that!)
One of my favorite things my daughter does is that she uses Disney movies as examples when talking to her little brother. “Don’t tell lies like Pinocchio did! It’s bad and his nose got so big!” She knows it’s a story but she also *gets* the lessons. #lesson11
In the #Lesson5 topic of we-ness overcoming us-ness and them-ness, I am torn. On the one hand, I understand how beneficial it would be for society; but on the other, I feel like our differences are what give us our identity and they should be embraced, not erased.
@Educ307MariaB@jadem307 for me it’s facebook. one video automatically starts to play and when it’s done, the next one rolls right after. next thing i know, i’ve lost half an hour of my life...
@JSycamoreTESL Thank you. It’s coming up on one year soon and as I rewatched her video this morning, I felt guilty about the truth of her words. I’m everything she’s warning society about!
In her TED talk, Sherry Turkle made a point that she studied people and saw that they text during funerals as a way to remove themselves from the grief. I didn’t realize it at the time but I also did this while at my brother’s funeral last year. She’s so right... 😢😳 #Lesson4
#Lesson2 The thing that I agree most with in Carol Brown’s list is how connected students are w/ Facebook, as opposed to Blackbord and other mediums. It’s true that I check fb 20x/day, so I (personally) WOULD be more likely to interact in a class utilizing it.
I agree with the statement that it’s the teacher that makes learning effective, as opposed to the medium used. That said, technology is constantly advancing and I am confident that one day, it will make the teacher obsolete. I’ll have to re-evaluate my opinion then! #Lesson1
@vpulice_educ307 It prepares them for life in the changing work environment (which has grown to include a greater emphasis on technology and social media), and different kinds of social interactions. For example, they would definitely excel in this course :-p
I’m reading the Intro of the first textbook now and I keep screaming internally every time I come across “dominate” being used as an adjective. #threetimesalready#Lesson1
