PSSD stands for post-SSRI sexual dysfunction. The name is a problem, because it hides the worst part of the condition.

I’ve now spoken with probably 20 to 30 people living with PSSD, and here’s what almost all of them tell me: the sexual dysfunction, horrific as it is, is not what they complain about most. It’s the emotional and cognitive effects. They describe it as a chemical lobotomy.

They hug their parents and feel nothing. They play the song from childhood that used to make the skin on the back of their neck tingle with nostalgia, and feel nothing. They describe being completely dissociated, watching their own life happen through a TV screen. Present, functioning, and sealed off from every feeling that made life worth living. Add the cognitive impairment, the fog, the dulled thinking, and you understand why they say the name undersells what happened to them.

This matters for two reasons. First, if you have these symptoms after an SSRI and never connected them to the drug, because nobody told you a “sexual side effect” could take your emotions too, now you have the full picture, and you’re not imagining it. Second, for anyone weighing these medications: the informed-consent conversation has to include this. Not just “some sexual side effects,” but the small risk of persistent emotional and cognitive disconnection that patients describe as losing themselves.

Never stop an SSRI abruptly. Any change should be gradual and medically supervised.

There's a LOT understood about the long term effects.

Studies NEVER tell you data that harms their purpose.

I will accept being a "little bit" wrong if a/o can find a perfect/honest study.
