"So 'reconciliation,' is that how the parties come together to work out their differences and write a new law?"
"No, of course not. It's how one party completely shuts the other party out."
"So...why is it called reconciliation?"
"No one knows."
The whole thing is obviously comical, but the fact that the political officials clearly ordered the Department of Energy to delete a recommendation made by actual experts just because of partisan politics is actually pretty bad.
First the TX-28 poll and now this. There's definitely a narrative Republicans are trying to push about south Texas. Given the huge Dem rebound among Hispanics a Dem sweep of all three seats is likelier than losing all three.
Dramatically more discussion discussion on here of a banal energy conservation exhortation from Mamdani than from thousands of people in Ohio suburbs actually losing power.

Julie Gonzales only losing by 6 despite no major endorsements and being outspent 13:1 by an incumbent Senator with no obvious scandal or major misstep is one of the more impressive primary results I’ve seen, and a sign of real Democratic primary voter dissatisfaction.
NYT: U.S. Officials Believed Israel Was Plotting to Kill Iranian Negotiators

Weird Al Yankovic pulled out of a commercial on which he was making a "nice pile of money" after discovering it was for AI.
“I’m not going to mention any names, but they told me it was for a business. It was business software that would increase productivity. I said, ‘Oh well, yeah, sure, I could do that.’ And then a week before we’re supposed to shoot it, I find out this is AI. And I thought, ‘Oh no, I can’t be the poster boy for AI, forget it.’ So I felt bad about kind of pulling out at the last minute. But yeah, I’m not down with that.”

The big picture: It's a better job market than a year ago, but the opportunities are limited.
2024 jobs added average: 122,000 a month
2025 jobs added average: 10,000 a month --> "hiring recession"
2026 jobs added average (so far): 92,000 a month
Healthcare and social assistance jobs remain the key driver of job growth. Over HALF of the jobs added in 2026 have been from healthcare/social assist.

I think it's interesting national DEMs are tight-lipped about data centers despite it being a very, very, very easy issue for them to win on. Everyone hates them, including Republicans. AI really has a strangehold on them since they have $$$ to spend. Underrated topic
In almost exactly one month, Missourians will be voting on a GOP-backed referendum that, if it passes, would effectively end citizen-led ballot initiatives in the state.
