At a grocery store in Atlanta, I tried to practice the ancient virtue of moderation. 🍗
Rotisserie chickens were labeled "BOGO: Buy One, Get One Free."
I am a solitary man. One roasted bird is enough for three meals.
I placed a single warm container on the conveyor belt.
The cashier, a large woman named Brenda with gold hoop earrings, stared at the plastic dome.
"Where's your second chicken, honey?"
"I require only one, Brenda-dono. It would be greedy to take what I have not earned."
Brenda stopped the entire register.
She looked at me like I had slapped her grandmother.
"It says Buy One GET ONE, sweetie. You paid for two. You're taking two."
"Please, my honor—"
Brenda clicked the store microphone.
"Darnell! Front lane four! This skinny boy is trying to leave half his dinner behind!"
A giant forklift driver in a neon vest, who was fifth in line holding a six-pack of beer, dropped his basket.
"On it, Miss Brenda."
He sprinted down aisle nine like an NFL linebacker.
Thirty seconds later, he slammed a second steaming chicken into my arms.
"Nobody starves in Georgia, chief. Take your bird."
In my country, you refuse a gift three times to show dignity.
In America, they stop the economy and tackle you with hot poultry.
Unless you were playing Frisbee in the quad during Econ 101, you know the federal government shouldn't send taxpayer money to dead people.
Treasury just stopped $175 MILLION from going to dead people.
I fought for years to make this common-sense fix permanent. Now it's law—and it's working.

The people of Brazil are SWARMING the streets as Flavio Bolsonaro currently leads against the man who threw his father in jail.
What we are witnessing in South America is the total rejection of Communist tyrants and the embrace of freedom.
Listen to all three minutes. No notes, just a mom who doesn't play about her kids.
This is the new standard for parents who care about what their kids are learning in school.
🚨HEROIC: In a Florida neighborhood, an SUV flipped upside down and plunged into a water-filled canal with a mother and her three young children trapped inside.
Hearing cries for help, local resident Casey Curtis rushed toward the canal. As he reached the edge, he saw the vehicle quickly filling with water and one of the young boys frantically banging on the window, crying that his mother was submerged.
Without hesitation, Curtis waded into the water to reach the upside-down vehicle. He managed to open the door and pull all three children out one by one, bringing each of them safely to the bank.
Knowing the mother was still trapped inside, Curtis swam back to the submerged SUV. Inside, he found the mother unconscious, buckled into her seat with her head below the surface. He unbuckled her, lifted her face above the water, and delivered rescue breaths right there in the canal until she gasped and began breathing on her own.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after to transport the family to the hospital. The mother spent several days in intensive care before making a full recovery alongside her three uninjured children. Curtis's swift actions prevented a tragedy and saved an entire family.
These images are from when they reunited in hospital.
Now that USAID has been cut off, there sure are a lot fewer “fact checkers” imposing their censorship on Americans these days.
Funny how that works.
Our government funding others to do the unconstitutional things it can’t do directly.
