@stoolgambling@ChrisKlemmer@StoolBaseball The Tampa Bay Rays have a city in their name. The city of Tampa. I’m annoyed because I drafted my wife (from Tampa) into this and we got 4.
@politicalmath It’s basically a union dynamic, with the pick me girls as scabs. Any individual girl can gain an advantage in the dating market by doing things other girls wouldn’t. To prevent a race to the bottom, girls as a whole have to punish this sort of behavior
@xwanyex To make the point another way, two statements most fair-minded people would agree with: 1) replacing the “reasonable doubt” standard with a “did he probably do it” standard would still correctly find people guilty >50% of the time; and 2) this change would be bad
@ArtemisConsort Close but if we’re settling all family business we need to agree on how/if schools handle and teach. I’d prefer they teach it’s a mental illness and can live with a rule that they don’t teach it at all—but i’m not leaving the teachers an opportunity to indoctrinate
@dilanesper I hope the narrative of “the campaign was too short” doesn’t carry her to the 2028 nom. Pretty much the opposite of the truth. Not a big fan of the Dems but the country will be better off with a stronger candidate from them
@xwanyex Prices are also a much more effective signal. If developers see massive rent in NYC, they’ll build there (legality aside). If they see lots of people entering the lottery to live in NYC but can charge the same there as in des moines, well, who cares?
@dilanesper@NolanHeimann Was there an argument that even if the 1A didn’t protect them, a state level constitutional amendment (presumably florida’s but maybe not? Was choice of law an issue at all?) did?
@jimmy_esq@adam_shniderman What you’re saying is all true but judges are doing less “what do i think the basis for the court’s reasoning was” and more “can i come up with a way to distinguish the cases,” acting like advocates. SC doesn’t have to give them the opening, but they don’t have to take it
@eigenrobot@xlr8harder The reason congress doesn’t check anymore is because partisanship, rather than branch of gov, is the fault line now. The transformation has been gradual but we’re pretty far along now. Seems like a parliamentary system would better account for that basic dynamic
@AuronMacintyre You all did see that at the flag day parade, thrice Vance offered him a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse. Was this in Trump ambition? But Jamie Raskin says he is ambitious, and jamie raskin is an honorable man.
