I was recently asked what "truths" I was referring to when I said Appalachian people held certain truths - like vaults filled with seeds - that would be there when the world finally tires of lies. Among those truths are the necessity for a thoughtful civilization to provide meaningful work for its people, work that is for the common good, work that requires hardship and sacrifice for which pride can be taken, work that creates personal and family bonds, and work that represents the expansion of the heart and spirit and not the diminishment of the soul. The opening of the space frontier is, in my opinion, a civilizational imperative that would require and create such work.
