Model of what happens without income tax. You make more with the same hours, and because more people are satisfied with standard of living, they can work less and make more (which is what most would do) and businesses respond by slashing wages.

@McCarthyist2 the problem is that changes in cost arent reflected symmetrically. increases (which happen in regulation) tend to get passed on, while decreases (during deregulation) are captured in profit, so you'll need another mechanism for the consumer to actually benefit
