This project uses art and research to understand how former unaccompanied minors (now adults) rebuild their everyday life in Finland, Norway and the UK.
Look at this beautiful artwork by the participants in our @NordForsk project Drawing Together! Exhibited now in Glasgow, Scotland; later in Norway and Finland. Please visit!
Our book about family separation is published and open access! Thanks co-editors @HiitolaJohanna Abdirashid Ismail & @JaanaPalander, @SuomenAkatemia@info_migration, advisory board @lhammondsoas@MJAlpes Eleonore Kofman & Helena Wray and all authors🌹

Please follow the link to an open-access text by Nick Haswell, @MerviKaukko @MarteKFylkesnes and @PaulSulCELCIS about how the participants of our Drawing Together-study navigate towards wellbeing!
NEW: Our latest feature story explores how young refugees in Scotland, Finland and Norway are coming together to explore how they rebuild their everyday lives in new countries: https://t.co/XRXlO0jNnI
Great to see if the poetry, stories, and art by young refugees in this book have parallels with the ones we collect in our project! https://t.co/1qHR1Xw9eH
@katrina_tour @MerviKaukko @RiikkaKorkiamk1@melmbarnes We also constantly balance between respecting our participants' contributions as artists and protecting their privacy as research participants. Our arts-based research is conducted with young refugees who came as unaccompanied minors to Finland, Norway and Scotland.
We can soon share:
- a blog post written by one of our participants of how music connects,
- an animation made by young refugees together with Nick Haswell and Elina Mantere,
- a quote video by Petter Korkman, presenting young refugees' settlement as navigation.
Stay tuned!
And then @MerviKaukko left Finland (not the project!) to join REACH (Research, Education, Action for refugees around the world) for a year as a @FulbrightFIN fellow at Harvard https://t.co/ykzD0jH7Sw
At @NordicMigration Conference in Copenhagen, @M_Tiilikainen@MarteKFylkesnes and @SA_McGregor presented on how young refugees negotiate family relationships in Finland, Norway, and Scotland

Our team (Nick, @MerviKaukko @MarteKFylkesnes and @PaulSulCELCIS) wrote a chapter playing with the metaphor of navigation: How young refugees in Finland, Norway and Scotland engage in social, moral and relational navigation when building new lives in their new home counties.
