My local police force are hiring. After the initial 22 weeks police training I would be on the same pay as I am as a prison officer on my top increment. After 7 years my pay would be around £16k higher than that of a prison officer. I would also be able to retire at 60.
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret The current prison officer pension age being linked to state pension age. For me to retire at 60 I must lose 40% of my pension. The other option is I have to potentially roll about with and restrain young men in their 20’s whilst being 65 and potentially frail.
@charlie_taylor6 Unfortunately without adequate staffing levels nothing will change. The service can only retain 1 in 4 new staff currently, with more experienced staff leaving every day too. I would hope you are doing everything in your power to help address the staffing/safety crises.
@SteveReedMP@elliereeves are there any specific reasons for not attending the POA conference? Even Dominic Raab and Victoria Adams had contributions, I thought you was the party of the working people and trade unions?
@RoryStewartUK I briefly talked with you on a visit when you was prisons minister… to this day I still say what a different workplace we could have had if you had only been given enough time. It’s rare a trade union representative praises a Tory, but you deserve it sir, come back and help us.
@ApsanaBegumMP Why would you want to nationalise a company making a loss? What would the plans be to make it profitable? If there are none then why expect the taxpayer to fund it given the cost of living crises. Unfortunately companies must be allowed to fail.
@MartiniGuyYT So the west then outlaw crypto assets and the products surrounding them, then anyone who continues dealing with crypto assets is classed as assisting the Russian government. Eventually CBDC’s are introduced to save the day.
@POAnatchair@hmpps@PayReviewBodies@POAUnion More generous than I was expecting however…
1) Only 2% uplift to actual “pensionable” pay which is still too low.
2) There is a lot of narrative in the document that would suggest another benchmarking exercise and “workforce modernisation” coming in with fresh new contracts.
@POAUnion@POAnatchair Setting the pay scales to one side there is a lot to be concerned about going forward based on the government evidence submitted to the PSRB. To me it reads a lot like shiny new contracts and more cross deployment…
@MartiniGuyYT I only listen to the topics that interest me. I try my hardest to listen to those within them topics that may have conflicting views to me, other wise you end up living in an echo chamber. It is always better to know and understand others views even if you don’t agree with them
