our latest episode featuring @baseten is out. feels like a real step change in production quality, but also a fun challenge trying to capture the entire nuance of open vs closed. big thanks to @mudithj for helping make this entire production happen.
things we're looking forward to improving on:
- longer videos unpacking topics more deeply, whilst still keeping them dynamic
- including more perspectives from different parts of society
- keep optimising for capturing these somewhat unaccessible founders in raw environments (e.g lo-fi coffee in the park)
Exclusive: Inside @baseten
The $13B startup at the centre of the biggest fight in AI - Open vs Closed.
We spent a day at their SF HQ with co-founder & CEO Tuhin Srivastava, Charlie O'Neill, Mudith Jayasekara and the Base Labs team - to understand why they're building an open ecosystem.
Backed by top VCs led by @saranormous@altcap@apoorv03@wmccarthy11@saammotamedi@nikiscevak@lachygroom@willreed + more. Plus participation from @nvidia.

Great tech-media insights from Tom here:
> "So this brings me to my point: avoid competing on highly accessible strategies. Where can you, and only you, compete?"
> "it's your point-of-view - built through your unique life experience."
He argues that as factors for media success like consistency, production value and access become more of a commodity, what remains? It's your life story and personal narrative that people can't copy.
My build to this: tech media is still badly short on creative talent. Excellent directors, scriptwriters, DPs and editors are rare in this space. Craft is still a differentiator for now.
@raa_desai Yes, choosing a direction and just starting is most important because the maturing of a creator is where we see the POV form, which is a real joy and signal of authenticity. over time, creators become the niche rather than any one content vertical. e.g Rogan is the niche
@harrydxffy yup i agree. the desire to simplify everything down to 1 is best for simplicity. a POV without baseline optimisation of each is near useless for brand building
@bymaximise hey @bymaximise we'd love to work with you if you're taking on more clients. your style is brilliant. we create short documentaries on tech startups, here's an example of a recent episode we're proud of. https://t.co/EH4XY21gVt
truly awesome to go inside @medivis_ai and try understand their mission of making high risk brain and spine surgery safer with AR.
thanks to the team for having us π‘
Exclusive: Inside The Worldβs First AR Goggles For Brain Surgery (feat. @medivis_ai)
Medivis raised $20M+ to build the worldβs first FDA-cleared AR system for brain and spine surgery. The founders, Dr Chris Morley (Radiologist) and Dr Osamah Choudhry (neurosurgeon) realised that surgeons were still operating on your brain using flat 2D images and guesswork. And for high stakes surgeries, you cannot make any mistakes, so what if technology could help?
We flew to New York, put the headset on, and saw a brain tumor floating in 3D in front of us. The question we wanted to answer was: Will augmented reality fundamentally improve the safety of surgery?
Founded by Dr. Osamah Choudhry & Dr. Christopher Morley (@ctmorley). Backed by @ThriveCapital@MayoInvents@RobertIger@hbarra, Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) + more.

top 3 books i've read in 2026
1. Red Rising by @Pierce_Brown (categorical banger. transported me back to childlike fantasy land)
2. Unlearn Your Pain by @HSchubiner (revelatory evidence behind neuroplastic nature of many chronic diseases. Comes off as a wonderful, wise human)
3. Good Energy by @CaseyMeansMD (different perspective unpacking metabolic dysfunction's role in fatal diseases + why she left trad medicine after graduating Stanford Medicine & beginning her ENT residency)
