A lot of people would have you believe that handing over parts of the NHS to private providers is our only option
But…
* Only the NHS takes care of patients at A&E
* Only the NHS trains our doctors and nurses
* Only the NHS looks after all patients
A democratically elected British Prime Minister has been driven from office by a relentless campaign of propaganda and misinformation; funded, amplified and perpetuated by foreign billionaires and elites whose interests bear zero resemblance to those of ordinary working people.
A noble gesture from an emotional Keir Starmer, entirely consistent with his conduct in office.
A truly sad day for British democracy.
His full resignation speech:
The many takes flying around about John Healey, resignation gossip and national security spending miss a fundamental point.
In Finland, where people have a strong social safety net and a real sense of shared national purpose, around 80% say they would be prepared to defend their country. In the UK, that figure is closer to 30%.
That should tell us something.
Until we change the financial architecture of our economy and bring the essentials of life out of the grip of corporate extraction and into public ownership, we will always be told to choose between bombs and butter.
But the reality is we need both.
Modern hybrid warfare means every public service is part of our national resilience. Energy, water, housing, health, transport, food security and social care are not separate from defence. They are defence.
If we want people to defend the country, we have to build a country people believe is worth defending. A thriving state. A fair economy. A society where everyone feels they have a stake.
I spoke about this on Peston on Monday night.
@JimFergusonUK I bet the citizens of the EU really hate seamless trade and freedom of movement they currently have forced on them and wish they could enjoy trade barriers with their nearest neighbours and border controls that we have.
@NuffieldHealth talk about tight. I have a defective membership card. Always have trouble going through the turnstile, they want £2.50 for a new card. Me and my wife pay £124pm and they want to charge me for a bit of plastic. Letchworth btw
@MPIainDS Brexit was based on a pack of lies and in percentage terms it was a small majority. It has damaged this country. In a democracy people have the right to change their minds
The British media is doing everything it can to make this mendacious, corrupt, incompetent, lazy, security risk the PM. Ask yourselves why? Why do they want that so badly, who benefits? It's not going to be the British people.
Follow the money, always follow the money.
