@gdesilet@PAHoyeck Actually, as we don't live in an unintelligible materialist cosmos, moral laws are universals as are the aspirations to unite reason with meaning. The west, Catholic canon law actually , defined the free willed rational person moving beyond tribalism and base materialism.
@waterbury_peter@SteveSkojec Our inner reality really does have that God sized emptiness that is our deepest satisfaction. As someone once put it, why walk when one can take a jet plane. (Assuming the wildest IPCC projections are just that 😂)
@waterbury_peter@SteveSkojec 😃In a certain light for sure. But the church turns on the lights. Slaying 50 infidels for a demanding sky Baddy satisfies as other lusts do ultimately. Love radiates from within; its own reward, not that I'm a wonderful instance of same. Truth is Person. Love.
@waterbury_peter@SteveSkojec I must confess that I am not trained in catechetics, but I can fairly easily imagine a person without "full knowledge" deeply repenting of a sinful behavior and being understood by the God of Love as having met a perfect requirement. But I offer that as me.. not the church.
@waterbury_peter@SteveSkojec On interesting instance is Pope Francis' stating capital punishment inadmissible in practice generally in the modern world, while acknowledging its foundation in sound principle. I was very pleased with this.
@waterbury_peter@SteveSkojec What are the conditions for a mortal sin and do not people sincerely regret a hell of a lot of their sins and strive to do better? We have one nature and one grace underlying all being. One Prompter.
@SteveSkojec@waterbury_peter I have confidence that such difficult matters will be reconciled in Christ and entirely agree that the development of doctrine and growths therein can be a daunting task. I am a lay person in such matters. I have total confidence in His body; us sinners.
@SteveSkojec@CatholicSat Hi Steve. I just read some of the online info concerning your journey and struggles over the last while. Hang in there brother. You obviously take our Lord with real seriousness and we can trust He'll carry even such as I through to the finish... er... beginning.. er.. 🙂
@SteveSkojec@waterbury_peter Vatican II did not contradict Florence; rather, it clarified the conditions under which one remains in the "bosom and unity" of the Church. The dogma holds that salvation comes only through Christ and the Church, but God can incorporate individuals into the Church invisibly 1/2
@waterbury_peter@SteveSkojec The Church clarifies that this does not mean only formal, visible members can be saved. Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel or the Church but sincerely seek God and strive to do His will according to their conscience may achieve eternal salvation.
@PAHoyeck I love the brave and valiant Barbara Kay (her son Johnathan Kay is great too) and this piece encapsulates much of what I found revolting about her paranoic screed. https://t.co/8pPvw43hDb
