An Arab tells you “you must come to my house for dinner.” You get excited. You wait for the invitation.
It never comes.
You think they were being fake.
They weren’t.
And not understanding this is one of the biggest mistakes expats make in the Arab world.
@JesseTayRiver That's not quite it. Falls/dementia are what get people into LTC facilities. The spiral starts there because Risk aversion and laziness then lead to repeat infections (usually starting with uti's)
@OldHollowTree "Most estimates place Act 250 compliance at $7-$7.50 per $1000 of project cost. Dream up your own modest house and estimate the cost for yourself."
So for a half-million build we're talking....... Like 3,500 bucks?
@JoshPrenot Right. Its a vibe/momentum thing almost. Like, A lot of smart kids are just used to being right - they *expect* to be able to solve most problems they encounter.
@jamesonhaslam@pcriley It's very necessary around the opening. If you're cheap you might skip it elsewhere, but for the mantel, lintel, and any walls that extend the firebox the way yours do, you need at minimum the standard 2" air gap to combustible framing.
