I know it’s become pretty cliche and cringey to talk about at this point but if you’re under like 25 I cannot stress enough how one time Obama wore a tan suit and people spent a week arguing over whether or not it was demeaning to the Oval Office and they were serious about it.
I’ve spent the last few days digging into Bandera, UPA, Volhynia and the whole fucking mess between Poland and Ukraine🇵🇱🇺🇦
And the more I read, the more I realize most people screaming about it don’t know shit about it. Volhynia happened. Tens of thousands of Polish civilians were murdered. That’s a fact. It was one of the darkest chapters in our history and pretending otherwise is idiotic.
But history didn’t start in Volhynia and it didn’t end there either.
Bandera wasn’t sitting in Volhynia directing the massacres. He was sitting in a German camp. He wasn’t a Nazi in the simple cartoon version people keep repeating, but he wasn’t some spotless freedom fighter either. The truth is messy as hell, which is exactly why everybody keeps simplifying it into stupid slogans.
What Zelensky did recently was a bad move. No question. Pouring fuel on this issue right now was unnecessary and predictable.
But here’s what blows my mind.
Russia spent centuries screwing both Poles and Ukrainians. The Soviets murdered, deported, occupied and terrorized both nations. Right now Russia is still bombing Ukrainian cities and killing Ukrainians every day.
And somehow we’re back to screaming at each other over graves from eighty years ago while Moscow sits back and enjoys the show. Learn the facts. All of them. Not just the ones that fit your tribe.
Because if Poles and Ukrainians start treating each other as enemies again, I can guarantee you one country will be celebrating harder than anybody else, and this country will be neither Poland or Ukraine. So stop this crap and do what matters now, try to defeat a common enemy, Russia.
“Freak Nasty” is an insane Carter Bryant nickname for me to hear after seeing dozens of tweets this season from Japanese Spurs fans calling him “Baby Bear” and saying they wanna spoon feed him banana pudding
Ramona Shelburne (@ramonashelburne) speaks about Wembanyama's training with the Shaolin monks:
"I was just like amazed by the training he did. I spoke to the monk that he trained with over in China and his name is Master Yan'An, I guess they called him Shifu, that's the word for a Shaolin warrior monk.
And he was saying the hardest part for Victor was the meditation. Because can you imagine sitting for 90 minutes silently when you're 7'5" cross-legged, like super uncomfortable..
Sometimes it was a standing meditation, sometime it was sitting, but it was 90 minutes. He said he would tell how long he would sit by taking a piece of incense and some of it were the long ones and some of it were the short ones, and whenever they would burn all the way down..
I'm like what 20 year old does this. Like who does this. But it was about training his mind to be present."
