New paper! When children receive information about the broader context someone is facing, they use this to revise their inferences about what that person is feeling.
And we suggest that this is because reflecting on one’s beliefs narrows the hypothesis space one needs to consider and makes it possible to select the right intervention or question.

What makes children skeptical about surprising claims? In this study, we found that, compared to younger 4-6-year-olds, 7-year-olds were more likely to express skepticism toward surprising claims when these were presented without supporting evidence, as opposed to with.
