On Wednesday morning around 4:53 am, we received a call of a burglary in progress at Tesla. The reporting party was the monitoring company who saw 5 subjects break into the building. Officers converged on the area and got to work. An immediate perimeter was set up, K9 Rudy was summoned, our drone was launched, and a request for additional officers was made to our partners at @RanchoPD , @chp_rancho , and Claremont Police Department
One of our officers spotted a Camry with no plates creeping up Campus Ave above Tesla ๐ค and stopped it. Upon contact, a loaded magazine was seen in the car and the solo driver couldnโt explain why he was in the area. The guy was detained while other officers continued working on the 5 outstanding suspects.
The 5 suspects then exited the Tesla building, jumped a south fence toward the 210, and hunkered down in the embankment under some bushes. Being that our drone has thermal imaging, these guys were not hard to spot.
Just as additional officers arrived on scene, the 5 suspects all got up and started running southbound across westbound lanes of the 210. Officers already on the westbound freeway perimeter were able to stop traffic and were able to quickly detain 3 suspects after a short foot pursuit, 2 suspect continued southbound across eastbound lanes of traffic.
Our drone operator was able to keep watch on the final 2 suspects and guided officers into the residential community west of Kohls where one of them started jumping fences. One of our motor officers swooped in and located this guy as he came over a fence.
The final suspect was spotted at 19th Street and Campus Avenue and decided he wasnโt done running. He led 2 of our officers on foot pursuit that ended near the El Pollo Loco.
All in all, 6 out of 6 adult suspects, all out of Los Angeles County, were captured. They were booked on felony commercial burglary and a slew of other charges.
A huge thanks again to @RanchoPD , @chp_rancho, and Claremont Police Department for the back up ๐ช

@ozzy_mora Mr. Olmos es la Onda! I also met him during my college years and he was more than helpful for our one on one interview at his friend's restaurant. He was such a great inspiration to me.
