Labour Party Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Copeland in 2019. Town and county councillor here. Socialist. Unwaveringly pro-Sellafield. For the many.
We have had 9 years of Tory austerity, cuts and underfunding for our schools, hospitals and public services. This must stop. It is time for a change. It is time to invest in Copeland with a Labour government fighting for the many, not the few.
For a year we’ve had the former Leader of our Party being a Labour member - which he has been since 1966 - and an MP but not being a Labour MP.
This should end. Jeremy should be a Labour MP. Restore the Whip.
Solidarity to Crispin Flintoff.
Totally unnecessary suspensions such as these are used to intimidate left-wing activists. But their despicable behaviour will only harden our resolve.
We can't let them win.
What is Keir Starmer proposing here, banning students from booing a far right extremist who wants to annex all Palestinian land, and who is the Ambassador of a state condemned by Human Rights Watch for practicing Apartheid?
Unite will not be voting for the last minute NEC rule changes on leadership elections. This is a distraction and not what matters to workers and our communities. We are in a time of political crisis and should be offering solutions #Lab21
These desperate attempts to restrict the influence of party members demonstrate an almost pathological fear of democracy amongst the Labour leadership & bureaucracy. Defeated on their main attack on democracy they now pick away wherever they can. https://t.co/02S1s4QHo0
Any attempt by the Labour leadership to return to an electoral college for leadership elections would be a cowardly attack on democracy.
It would radically reduce members' say and hand wildly disproportionate power to MPs in Westminster. 1/2
There’s reports the Labour Leadership wants to go back in time to the old days when the vote of each MP in an election for Labour Leader was worth the votes of thousands of members.
If true, it would be to treat members with contempt and must be rejected as anti-democratic.
The new Health Secretary has been getting paid £1,500 an HOUR over the last year for his second job and for his third job too.
Today I told him that he has absolutely no right to deny NHS staff a proper pay rise.
He didn't like it.
Opinions are cheap but evidence is better.
The countries who pursued maximum suppression have the best health outcomes, the best economic outcomes AND the least infringement of civil liberties.
This is not opinion - it's fact.

And here is a comparison of death rates in countries that did and did not suppress the virus with effective find, test and supported isolation programmes. (3)
We didn't suppress the virus in Feb 2020 + followed an absurd herd immunity policy. We failed to copy Asian contact tracing and isolation in July when cases were low. We failed again after 2nd lockdown which led to the third. Nothing has changed for the next variant surge.
K. Starmer: “We should treat the 2017 manifesto as our foundational document, the radicalism and the hope that that inspired across the country was real." 11th January 2020
We - scientists, doctors, Labour Party, myself - have been calling on the Govt to bring in full hotel quarantines for all arrivals at the borders for **months** now.
The Government refused. And still refuse.
Now we risk returning to the nightmare we never wanted to return to.
I’m furious the UK Government has - recklessly - ignored warnings from scientists and @UKLabour in refusing to secure our borders with a proper quarantine system.
They’ve left the door open to dangerous strains.
Now we have this deeply worrying situation to deal with...
Countries with tight border controls - e.g. New Zealand, Australia - have been able to restart their internal economies and return almost to normality. The reluctance to seal the UK off from new variants may prove one of the biggest failures of this pandemic.
Question we have to keep coming back to is why, when our vaccination programme is going well, the government did not decide to enforce tighter border control to prevent new variants from arriving. India was added to the red list weeks after cases were spiking there.
"There is consensus on these policies across the Labour Party; they are the programme Keir Starmer was elected on. They are not mine or anyone else’s, but the product of a movement of 600,000 party members and trade unions representing millions of workers"

Labour MP Richard Burgon says voters, and even Labour activists, don't know what Sir Keir Starmer and the Labour Party stand for

The Labour leadership has failed to take the fight to the Tories or to spell out how it will deliver the change people are crying out for.
We can rebuild by pushing the popular policies of our recent manifestos.
