@Venckman1@mmercer01@kevinnbass Could have known, antibody tests were widely available, but there was a stubborn refusal to acknowledge natural immunity. Should have focused on Covid naive, high risk individuals. The blanket approach/mandates destroyed trust and likely cost lives.
@mmercer01@kevinnbass This is how I would justify it:
At the time of vaccine roll out, many people were still Covid naive. Many of those with risk factors (elderly, obese, heavy alcohol use, diabetic) did not do well when they got original strain or Delta. Of those folks, the vaccinated fared better.
@DrKellyVictory Nat immunity > vax immunity, so those previously infected with pre-delta strain did well. But those with no vax definitely did NOT do better than the vaccinated if delta was their 1st exposure. Should have left those with NI alone & focused on Covid naive patients for tx & vax
@ScottAdamsSays Same rationale used to justify mask mandates & lockdowns. When a subsequent drop in case nmbrs is used to justify an intervention the graphs appear to show the intervention worked. Maybe they did work, but it’s correlation at best. Maybe cases rise & fall regardless of what we do
@JarrodKeef@DrKellyVictory My point is that if big pharma is supposedly suppressing the “cheap” drugs, why does dex continue to be a mainstay in the treatment of Covid patients with moderate to severe disease? The reason is that it works. I’ve prescribed a ton of dex. It works a lot better than HCQ and IVM
@ronmantini @DrKellyVictory Agreed. The risk of trying IVM is very, very low. I just worry that too many people are putting all their eggs in the IVM basket and discounting any discussion about alternatives.
@bringsmileback@DrKellyVictory Certainly not. I haven’t recommended against IVM for any of my patients. It may well decrease the duration of symptoms in people with mild illness. I’m more concerned about finding treatments that prevent progression to severe dz. In my experience, IVM hasn’t worked well for that
@ronmantini @DrKellyVictory That Ahmed study showed that patients that received IVM cleared the virus earlier than the control group in patients with MILD disease. But does it prevent progression to severe dz? That’s the big question. It also said the sample size was too small to draw solid conclusions.
@ronmantini @DrKellyVictory Not questioning the safety of IVM. That is well established if it’s taken correctly. I believe we need to continue to study its efficacy. Just as we continue to study and evaluate the efficacy of all treatments we offer.
