It appears this season is not going to go the way any of us planned. However, whether you like it or not, the Royals are probably not going to fire their manager. Teams don’t generally fire a manager who’s coming off two winning seasons and to whom they just gave an extension. I’m not arguing principle; I’m arguing pragmatic reality.

So I’m unlikely to entertain nightly arguments about whether or not he should be fired. I don’t have the energy. We can talk about his successes and failings, the lineup, the pitching staff, really anything that is actually happening. But a firing is not happening anytime soon and probably not this year.
