Really proud of this new program led by @TonyYangMD to train surgeons in quality & process improvement through a formal curriculum and practical projects. They successfully tackled tough problems and learned how to use the methodology and navigate the health system. Congrats!
🎓Today, we celebrated the graduation of the first IU Surgery QI Leaders Program cohort!
These leaders are driving meaningful change by tackling real-world quality initiatives and presenting their outcomes. Some of our faculty graduates couldn’t attend the celebration, but we snapped a great group photo with those who did.
👏Congratulations to all our graduates and welcome to the next cohort joining the journey.

Second year @IU_SOQIC research resident @JacksonBaril presenting work on the impact of surgeon-scrub tech familiarity on operative time and costs. Great job representing @IU_Surgery in the #ASC2025 Clinical Outcomes Plenary session!
Legendary surgeon, Nat Soper, was our visiting prof this week. Many faculty at @IU_Surgery worked for him at Northwestern, trained under him, or partnered with him in @SAGES_Updates. A pioneer in laparoscopy & an outstanding leader, he led Northwestern Surgery to its highest point in its history. Now he is now having an incredible impact at U of Arizona Phoenix. A wonderful human, mentor, and friend. I’m sure all of us, and friends who are still at Northwestern, miss having you as our chair.
This morning's state of the department meeting was a success! Thanks to all who joined us either online or in person in addition to those who attended a department social shortly after. We are excited for the future and all that we will accomplish together!🤝🌟
