@TheRealFbloke There's probably an aspect of that but I think the main issue is how Liverpool have conducted themselves. Incremental bids for Lavia, refusing to pay the asking price to then finding £111m to bid on Caicedo then crawling back to Southampton for Lavia again.
Forget Chelsea's lunacy, and almost certain rule breaches, at spending almost £200m on CDMs - Liverpool have royally shafted themselves in the space of 4 days. Needlessly getting involved in the Caicedo deal and now to be publicly embarrassed once again with Lavia.
On a footballing level for both players, it's beyond me why either would join Chelsea over Liverpool. But transfers aren't agreed on purely football reasons unfortunately.
What a shambles.
🚨 𝗡𝗘𝗪: Liverpool have denied an agreement for Roméo Lavia has been struck with Southampton at £60 million. Lavia's Chelsea preference could be because he feels let down by Liverpool’s willingness to ditch him last week and go all in for Caicedo. [@_pauljoyce]
Shambles 🤦♂️
@chrissully23 Lol feel like a broken record but just finding it painful and hugely frustrating watching us go backwards. Hope I’m wrong and last session was a one off but don’t seen to be learning any lessons.
We could have signed Lavia for £50m two weeks ago when we were haggling over £5m. And the player wanted to come.
The fact #LFC are now at £60m with the player unsure is a bit farcical.
There is tons of potential in our squad. We aren’t far away. But recruitment needs shake up.
No permanent incoming appointments to replace Peter Moore, Michael Edwards, Julien Ward and Graham. Other staff have left as well. Nothing seems to happening on a scouting level in comparison to other top clubs. No dialogue from FSG. Liverpool had been a miss for 18 months #lfc
@JamesPearceLFC “Transfer business done early”
Nothing is done yet.
Not without signing a quality CB.
And certainly without having a DM signed yet either.
@JamesPearceLFC “Transfer business done early…” Sounds somewhat final that, in that Liverpools business is done for the summer! Though can’t say I’m surprised! FSG always do the bare minimum!
@JamesPearceLFC Honestly, if losing 5 midfielders, 3 of which were largely unavailable, and replacing them with 2 new signings (albeit great signings), is our transfer business done early, the clubs in a worse state than I thought.
#LFC could invest more money in the transfer market, but this would mean them changing their sustainable business model. They have always tried to “sell to buy”, but this has proved difficult in the current environment, as the usual purchasers are suffering financially.
Low spending is a calculated risk, as #LFC might be overtaken by others in the race for the Champions League (and its lucrative rewards), especially as the team is growing old together, but as Klopp said, “we were quite successful given the limits in the last two years.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold's first half by numbers vs. Malta:
100% take-ons completed (4/4)
50 touches
6/7 duels won
6 passes into final ⅓
5 x possession won
2 chances created
1 shot
1 goal
0 fouls
10/10. 😏
But what Klopp feels he needs and what the owners will sanction can be very different things. When a club sits fourth on the football rich list, no one wants to give that club a bargain deal on quality. Who knows; maybe they strike it lucky with another low value release clause.
