If you are a parent at home & thinking teacher recruitment doesn't affect you / your kids aren't in AEN & so it doesn't affect them- think again. Unsupported AEN affects EVERY child, EVERY classroom-be it teacher needing to move at a slower pace, reteaching, behaviour issues etc
There is such a massive gap between the assessed needs of children and the service delivery for them.

Addressing the teacher shortage shouldn't involve lowering criteria to be a teacher--it should involve supporting teachers, paying them, and providing the resources needed to best serve students.
@kermit_kerm@simonmlewis The training is also not given in preparation for the class but only after the class has opened. For a variety of reasons many teachers do not actually receive it during their first year working in the class.
@seansherlocktd @labour And that's for a young person who is so completely in need that they make the extraordinarily high thresholds. Those who are struggling hugely, often in crisis, but who don't make it through the screening process have to struggle on with their families, unaided and unsupported.
