@Ineverglow It makes me laugh cause I love both bands, but I remember having fierce debates back in youth group over whether Jon or Matt was a better songwriter 😂
@dieworkwear Dress, or modesty, as it relates to the Christian faith is less about showing skin or Sunday best and more about honoring God with what you wear, and how you present yourself in the community. In some cases, wearing a suit may even be sinful if the heart is prideful 😜
@dieworkwear The Matthew text you referenced is a parable of Jesus, and the point isn’t really about dressing your best — it’s about being ready to receive the invitation from the King (Jesus). The James passage is more prescriptive, and speaks to Churches not showing preference for wealth.
@ErikReed@realmattcarr Why are you happy with Trump and Vance pedaling Russian propaganda? The whole meeting went sour when Zelenskyy reminded our VP that Putin is at fault for violating their peace agreement in 2015. European countries invading each other start world wars, not self defense.
There is so much unserious and downright stupid commentary floating around. As Kevin Williamson says, it takes 400 words to refute one stupid sentence. I don’t have time to respond to most of this but I will say a few things.
Ukraine’s constitution says that while under martial law, elections are suspended. Zelenskyy isn’t a dictator by any definition. His country is being constantly bombarded and invaded. There is reason to think an election while half the country is fighting and your enemy is at the gates is a bad idea. Even his chief political rival rejects the idea of elections before the end of the war.
Russia has pushed the idea that Zelenskyy is a dictator to create moral equivalence. But the claim has no basis.
Neither has the claim that half of our aid has simply gone missing. There is rigorous oversight of what we spend on aid to Ukraine and a significant portion (I believe a majority but I don’t have time to source it) has gone either directly to US Weapons manufacturers or to buy out our soon-to-expire backlog of arsenal.
In other words, it’s not like Jill Biden has been flying to Kyiv with bags of money for shopping sprees with Mrs. Zelenskyy.
All of this is quite “googlable,” but propagandists count on you not taking the time.
Last thing I’ll say.
Making an alliance is not a provocation.
At no point in the history of modern Ukraine has there been an aspiration to seize Russian territory. Their aspiration for NATO membership has always been about their prescient awareness that the Russians were coming.
But Russian desire for Ukraine dates back centuries, as has their lust for Poland and Finland. Stalin killed millions of Ukrainians before World War 2. Efforts to ethnically cleanse it on behalf of Russia are nothing new.
And likewise, Ukrainian resistance has outlived tyrant after tyrant. Stalin is dead. Hitler is dead. All of the Soviet premiers are dead. Ukraine lives.
Americans made them a promise when we took their nuclear arsenal away in the 90’s. We sadly broke that promise in 2014 under Obama. Biden was slow and feckless in his support during this war. Ukrainian valor and courage has outlasted those poor decisions, and they’ll outlast this one.
But as an American who thinks tyrants are bad and keeping promises is good, I am hoping and praying that we don’t abandon them now.
@joe_rigney It’s only problematic because you’re claim doesn’t appear to be that empathy can at times be a sin, but rather that empathy that drives people to care about people who you don’t believe to be worthy of concern is in of itself sinful. σπλαγχνίζομαι implies that emotion moved Jesus
