Most “growth problems” are the owner refusing to let go of the yes.
They hire help. They get slower. Every exception still hits their phone. They buy a title and call it ops.
Headcount is not a system. It’s a coping mechanism with a salary.
After $5M I design and implement the system.
Under $5M I teach the founder to design it.
If you disappeared for 10 days, what breaks unless you’re in the thread?
Don’t say everything. Name the function.
@shawngorham@realestatedude0 Back when I had a brokerage I would offer the buyers agent more and encourage my agents to do the same. More incentive.
Eventually most of them would head off the buyer BS instead of forwarding it to me
Revenue is a vanity metric if the owner still has to show up.
$500k with no employees can be a business.
$3M with 14-hour days and no take-home is a job you assigned yourself.
The test is 30 days away.
If sales stall, decisions pile up, and cash gets tight the week you leave, you are still the system.
Staff does not fix that. A new CRM does not fix that.
Who is allowed to decide when you are not in the thread — that fixes it.
DM me DESIGN if you want that mapped
@TheJeffPutnam 😂 this is so true... And I'm a COO. But I function like this: meeting could have been an email, this email could have been a message, and the message probably didn't need to get sent
@realcolegordon 100% agree and I'm a fractional COO. I usually don't even consider a company under 5M.
I do have other options for them however, mainly teaching them how to hire and manage efficiently until they can get to 5M+. Design, margins, inputs
@acq_official I did that. Now I work part time for only a few clients a year. It's how I give back. I believe successful people have a noblesse oblige for service later in life
@shawngorham I charge more than that
But 30 years of experience, millions of dollars in profit, and a track record of dozens of companies rescued...I feel good about it
