I didn't expect to write about more than one tortillería this week, but what started as 1 workplace dispute is now a movement. @latinorebels

For the safety of our students and staff, CPS is canceling classes and after school activities for Tuesday, January 16. The forecast combination of subzero temperatures and a Wind Chill Warning makes for unsafe conditions.

The reason it's so important for press collegaues to use "Migrants" instead of "border" in your news copy is because the policies being proposed in Congress are about detaining and expelling people, not securing the border.
If I'm wrong, say so.
If not, change up.
Por favor.
@PabloReports Good. Workers organizing the union must unite with their coworkers, which are people they often hate. You don't show solidarity because you like all your colleagues, you show solidarity because you stand w/ workers & aren't a coward.

We lost his brother, Monk, on November 8th. We couldn't save him. Now, Chunk needs surgery. We CAN help this time! Appreciate any donations or shares. Thank you!
@heymrsbond I'm in sped w/ 5 students in my classroom, so I can be really confident when I say they all want to celebrate Halloween and Christmas. That said, I appreciate your seasonal suggestion cuz in this case, I'm the one that is not 100% comfortable w/ holidays.
@heymrsbond Not dismissing how holidays may not be appropriate for classrooms. I think we all need to be flexible and be the teachers our students need. The challenge is our students don't all need the same thing.
@heymrsbond I've had the opposite experience. I'm not into holidays at all. I don't dress up, decorate, plan activities or anything. But students began asking me "What are we going to do for Halloween?" "What are we going to do for Christmas?" "We should decorate our door!" etc.
@MattRhoads1990 Resident teachers in Chicago make 40k plus medical insurance and are part of the union. (I was part of the residents that organized the union). My cohort started with 25 & a year later 21 finished the program and are teachers. Too soon to know how many of us will stay long term
My 5th/6th grade soccer team played in the championship today. We lost.
A) Our elementary doesn't have a field. We practiced indoors on a hardwood gym.
B) Balls were stolen this week, so we practiced without balls.
Underdogs 'til the end. Couldn't be more proud!
@PabloReports@ryangrim@latinorebels@HectorLuisAlamo@ExtremeArturo@DurgaOne That's a convo above my understanding. I don't have a business, mba, or ever been good with money. I'll defer to you since you know about news biz. All I know is what I like to read. Hector is a great example. His best writing is not news.
