Kinshasa is rebuilding its Central Market.
Perforated brick. Shaded colonnades. Passive ventilation.
This is what African public infrastructure looks like when the architect understands where they’re building.

The open-air plaza, surrounded by 147 precast concrete columns forming staggered arches, was completed in a record-breaking 16 weeks with the effort of 3,000 workers. It serves as a flexible space for events such as film screenings and award ceremonies, with a distinctive atmosphere shaped by its setting, landscape design, and play of light and shadow. The project draws on acoustic expertise from Nagata Acoustics and Kahle Acoustics, and theatre design by Ducks Scéno. The second phase will introduce a 600-seat concert hall and a 2,000-seat conference facility, designed to host international cultural events.

Festival Plaza El Gouna, designed by @StudioSeilern and completed in 2019, stands as a cultural landmark in the eco-conscious resort town of El Gouna, Egypt. The 30,000 m² complex is the first phase of a larger cultural project, including a concert hall and conference center. Inspired by traditional Egyptian and Middle Eastern architectural forms, the design reinterprets arches and colonnades in a monumental scale, creating a shaded perimeter around the plaza. Situated in the heart of an artificial lagoon, the venue uses a gravity-based water system fed by existing wells, reflecting the project’s environmental sensitivity.
@uber_kenya For the last one week, some of your drivers are extremely unprofessional, demanding double payments, they accept trips & won’t move, they call & ask where you are going, then give you the price to pay, if you refuse, they ask you to cancel. It’s happening daily now.🆘

Have you ever wondered why the world is full of box-shaped buildings with square windows, plain walls, and no ornamentation?
Well, it's because of this house in Austria.
It may look ordinary, but that's the point. It's actually 112 years old...
