Our Chairman of the Board Tyson Johnston sat down with Rob Powell at Telecom Ramblings to chat about the origin of Toptana, the need for new digital infrastructure on the West coast, and the challenges we’re facing. #internetforall#digitalinfrastructure

Digital technology didn’t cause the climate crisis, but it has contributed to it. It can also help solve it. So on this Earth Day, let’s get serious about turning the digital revolution into climate action, before it’s too late. #EarthDay#ClimateAction#digitalinfrastructure
Billions in funding for digital infrastructure development is completely dependent on FCC maps. Getting them right is essential. By old measurements, the FCC estimated 14.5 million Americans are unserved; research shows the number is at least 43 million. https://t.co/QtqNYcdx9b
Owned by the Quinault Indian Nation, Toptana is a great example of the “incredible solutions based on centuries of wisdom and knowledge” President Fawn Sharp described at the World Economic Forum. #wef24#ClimateChange#DigitalDivide#BroadbandForAll

Indeed! And the two are interconnected. Bridging the #digitaldivide doesn’t have to come at the expense of the environment. In fact, digital technology can help mitigate the worst effects of #climatechange. But only if communities have high-speed internet. #broadbandforall
Earlier this week, @UNDP Administrator @ASteiner spoke at the #TIME100 roundtable in Davos on closing the #digitaldivide, calling out digital exclusion as a “perilous phenomenon alongside #climatechange”.

A great showcase of public funding for #broadband#infrastructure. There are many challenges still to be overcome (including with who gets counted as un- or under-served and what infrastructure gets funded) but #connectivity for 33,000 Tribal households is something to celebrate!
More than one-third of people living on Tribal land have no internet service.
Over $105 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help address this digital disparity by expanding broadband connectivity for Native American Tribes in Arizona.

It’s great to see the bipartisan effort to extend #ACP. Affordability matters. But for unserved communities like ours the problem is a lack of infrastructure. So we also need programs like #BEAD to help companies like Toptana deploy the infrastructure to achieve #InternetforAll.
In 2024, having high-speed internet isn’t a luxury—it’s an absolute necessity.
Our new bipartisan bill is going to help the millions of folks who save money every month on their internet bill through the Affordable Connectivity Program stay connected.
“Asking how important subsea cables are to a digitally driven economy is like asking a fish how important water is.” (h/t @CSIS) It’s why we’re building the first cable landing station in WA since 1999. #subsea#connectivity#internetforall
#ICYMI Last week our Chairman of the Board spoke at the White House Tribal Nations Summit about collaborating to manage #ClimateChange on tribal lands. His remarks apply equally to the work we’re doing to bring #InternetforAll to the Olympic peninsula.

#Connectivity is a necessity as much as electricity and plumbing. Yet as many as 163 million people in the U.S. alone don’t have it. See how we’re working to bridge this #DigitaDivide: https://t.co/oJXjPPKncC #InternetForAll
The global #digitaldivide continues to perpetuate social and economic inequality. 53% of the world’s population lacks access to high-speed internet, as well as information and #technology that could improve lives. Read more. https://t.co/6lv1aeRjA5
Inaccurate data is problematic because #BroadbandForAll funding is only available for un- or under-served communities. Despite having no access to high-speed internet, communities miscounted as served lose out on historic #BEAD#infrastructure funding.
Despite broadband's critical importance, high-speed Internet access is often inadequate on tribal lands. The gap is exacerbated by inaccurate data about broadband access in Indian Country.

Our Chairman of the Board, who’s also the Self-Governance Director for the Quinault Indian Nation, spoke at the White House Tribal Nations Summit. His remarks about tribal #innovation apply to #ClimateChange and to bridging the #DigitalDivide.

Today the Quinault Indian Nation celebrates Joe DeLaCruz Day. Joe was President of the Quinault Indian Nation from 1967 to 1993, and was inducted into the National Native American Hall of Fame on October 14, 2023.
Dedicated programs like TBCP are great in theory but they must be crafted to ensure they’re removing barriers to #internetforall funding – not creating them. (E.g., reporting requirements aren’t overly burdensome or awards are sufficient to pay for staff to manage reporting.)
Funding from @POTUS' #InternetforAll initiative will help directly connect Tribal households and businesses to high-speed Internet service.
Learn more about the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program from @NTIAgov. #NAHM https://t.co/O5HlX3FBl8
@NTIAgov Indeed! (For example, Deloitte researchers found that a 10% increase in #broadband access in 2014 would have generated 875,000 new jobs and $186 billion for the economy in 2019.) Of course, implementation matters and when it comes to #infrastructure, care must be taken to 1/2
Solutions to big problems – like the #DigitalDivide – don't emerge overnight. They need the right teams, support, and funding to make meaningful change. Our latest blog outlines a clear path forward on the journey towards #DigitalEquity. Who's ready? https://t.co/GZpAwUrCjU
