Thank you @bbcbitesize for inviting us to be a part of this series, where our Director for Trainees @MrHariParekh talks about his passion for clinical psychology, the pathway through training and the skills learnt on the doctorate course. @hamlettfilms

Maslow's hierarchy of needs is one of our best known/best loved models in leadership. Yet Maslow never presented it as a pyramid or hierarchy. @dhambeukers has redrawn it as circles. I like the addition of a 6th component: our need to be part of & protect the bigger system, whether it's our community or the planet https://t.co/4kkdBuoiMZ
@BBCPanorama's undercover investigation highlights examples of the poor standards in the assessment & diagnosis of ADHD in the private sector, and apparent failure to adhere to NICE guidance.

How do we measure team success? This view of success starts with the principle of “coaching the system, not the people”. Rather than micromanaging individuals & teams, build a supportive & motivational environment via effective systems: https://t.co/mcK8AdPRYj by @senseonthebeach
I cannot imagine this journey. When you make it through such a difficult path, please know there are some of us in positions of 'power' ready to support you through to lead the next generation. You have got this so hang in there.
I don’t want to discourage black people from applying to the clinical psych doctorate because we are needed. But I’m being real, go where you are loved. Out of the 100s of trainees in my course only 3 are black ( inc. myself). One in each year. Imagine our experiences.

Compassion is part of the (evidence-based) science of leadership. How to be a compassionate leader according to research:
1) Start small
2) Be thankful
3) Be purposeful
4) Find common ground
5) See it
6) Elevate
7) Know your power:

@WarwickBSchool Q3: one factor that makes improvement teams effective is their approach: they do change with people, or support people to do their own change. The not-so-great kind of improvement teams do change "to" people or "for" people. See principles from @CormacRussell#LeadingQI#QIHour
Is "change management" still relevant? No says @Martha_Edwards. It's essentially a set of tactics to make it easier to impose change on people & overcome resistance to change. Rather, we should be designing change with & around the people affected by it: https://t.co/eXbhKHPMPH

As someone who co-designs & facilitates many change workshops, I know we get the best workshop outcomes when we have both high levels of preparedness AND an ability to flex the agenda when things emerge during the session. It's explained here by @rnadworny https://t.co/eQOLJ54Pjp
