The Border Management Authority (BMA) successfully facilitated the departure of 933 Mozambican nationals through the Lebombo Port of Entry on 3 June 2026.

Of those processed, 349 came from the Lindela Holding Facility as part of the Department of Home Affairs’ deportation programme, while 584 travelled from Mossel Bay with assistance from the Mozambican High Commission.

All individuals underwent immigration checks, including identity verification and biometric screening.

Authorities also dealt with cases involving undocumented individuals, immigration status verification, and 17 people who had overstayed their visas.

The group included 38 minors, whose processing was overseen by the Department of Social Development.

A total of 926 people were successfully returned to Mozambique, while seven were not permitted to depart due to documentation, immigration status, nationality verification, or child protection concerns.

The operation was completed without incident and highlighted cooperation between South African and Mozambican authorities in managing lawful cross-border movement.

The best referee on the African continent and it is unfortunate to see him stuck and still unable to secure a visa to travel for the 2026 World Cup while all other African officials have already arrived.

Omar deserves to be on that global stage on merit. He worked very hard for it.

Hopefully, FIFA, CAF, the Somali authorities and the US Embassy can urgently find a solution and ensure fairness is upheld before it’s too late. 🇸🇴
