@EpsilonTheory@pmarca betting is addictive; most people lose; and some people who lose get desperate, and cross lines they know they shouldnt. some people just cross lines anyway.
we are going to see many more stories like this
@EpsilonTheory@pmarca some of my key formative years were in the uk, 25 years ago, when online betting was gearing up.
not going to bore you with those war-stories, but enough to know this. betting companies expect 70% of customers to leave inside of a year, with nothing left in their accounts.
@DougJBalloon whether it's donald trump falling asleep in court, or joe biden cautioning israel on how to respond to iran, both sides have a problem being clear-eyed in the midst of a crisis.
@jnordvig is it appropriate to use the term "war", in this context?
ps. pedantry aside, i think it's accurate to a point... the outcome of the cold war might be the one thing that putin and the west agree on!
@EoinHiggins_ if he's running as a rw stealth operation, backed by big wingnut donors, then i'd say that's more a reflection on him than biden.
fwiw i don't see how he eats into either the dem base or the squishy middle, seems he's mainly a draw to fruit loops from both fringes.
@EpsilonTheory anyway, my little chew-toy is the fed overhiked to fight inflation it wasnt equipped to deal with, and then oversignalled willingness to cut.
not the worst policy errors in history, but certainly two of the weirder ones. especially the second.
@EpsilonTheory that it took until now for rate cut expectations to be pushed into september... means that whatever got baked into market expectations only happened this morning
