As a medical school professor, I taught for years that "less salt is always better."
New research in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism just challenged that.
In a rigorous inpatient study, researchers found that salt depletion INCREASED insulin resistance within just 24 hours.
The numbers:
- HOMA-IR nearly doubled (5.9 to 10.9)
- Fasting insulin jumped 58%
- Fasting glucose rose 11%
And it was worst in people already insulin resistant.
The mechanism? Salt changes triggered inflammatory oxidative stress in immune cells, which directly impaired insulin signaling.
This is metabolic dysfunction in action -- inflammation and insulin resistance feeding each other in a vicious cycle.
One-size-fits-all salt advice may be doing real harm to metabolically vulnerable people.

Salt restriction lowers blood pressure by 2-5 mmHg on average.
Dietary carbohydrate reduction? Double digits in many patients.
We’ve been chasing the wrong villain for decades.
Hypertension isn’t a salt problem. It’s an excessive insulin problem.
Dogs & Cancer Survival (56% Lower Death Risk)
As a medical school professor, I never expected to prescribe this: get a dog.
A study of 6 MILLION cancer patients just found that dog owners had a 56% lower risk of dying within 5 years of their cancer diagnosis.
Published in Scientific Reports, the research matched 27,631 dog owners to 27,631 non-owners by age and sex. The survival gap was stunning:
-> Dog owners: 94.9% alive at 5 years
-> Non-owners: 87.1% alive at 5 years
-> Hazard ratio: 0.44 (highly significant, P<0.001)
The researchers point to increased physical activity, reduced loneliness and depression, and even gut microbiome benefits from dog contact.
This isn't just emotional comfort. This is measurable, metabolic-level protection. Depression drives inflammation. Loneliness worsens insulin resistance. Sedentary behavior accelerates disease.
Dogs address ALL of these -- and the data now backs it up at massive scale.

High blood pressure is almost always a sign that metabolic health needs to be improved.
We know this because when someone with HBP gets lean, fit and strong, blood pressure tends to normalize.

The most important fight of my life isn’t in the ring.
I’m not fighting for a belt. I’m fighting for our health.
Processed foods are killing us. We have been lied to and we need to eat real food again.
Protein and chronic kidney disease:
Meta-analysis of 10 cohort studies.
218,741 participants, followed 6 to 23 years.
Higher intakes of animal and plant protein were each associated with a REDUCED risk of developing chronic kidney disease.
REDUCED.

Breakfast shouldn’t feel like dessert.
Cereal is sugar.
Juice is sugar.
And muffins are just cupcakes in disguise.
A sweet, high-carb breakfast spikes insulin…
then leaves you hungry, foggy, and reaching for snacks an hour later.
Opt for eggs, meat, real food instead.

Ever been told no RCT's show any harm of replacing saturated fats with seed oils. Three large RCT's have found exactly this. Their findings were misrepresented to the public.
1) Sydney Diet Heart Study
2) Minnesota Coronary Survey
3) Women's Health Initiative
