The TWU fights every day for workgroups both large and small across the country, from 40 workers to 40,000 workers. We will FIGHT with every weapon we have to defend TWU livelihoods. @TwuSamuelsen

Grateful to stand alongside @TishJames and @AndreaSCousins, leaders fighting for a safer, more affordable New York. Because of work like theirs, I’m more hopeful than ever that our best days are still ahead of us.
Stray voltage from underground cables almost certainly caused the carriage horse to bolt. Given this major development, it would be immensely unfair to ban an entire industry employing about 200 mostly immigrant workers because of faulty municipal infrastructure. @TwuSamuelsen
"Creating a permanent funding stream for the RRB and giving railroad workers timely access to services they spent years paying for should be a clear-cut decision," said TWU Rail Division Director John Feltz. "The TWU calls on the Senate to swiftly pass the legislation."
NEWS: Railroaders are a step closer to seeing improvements to the Railroad Retirement Board, a self-funded entity which administers their hard-earned benefits. We thank @SenBillCassidy & @SenSanders for working to advance the bipartisan RRB Stability Act. https://t.co/bnMxnqc80i
.@juliemenin is not supporting the workers. She is brutally ripping their livelihoods and their horses away from them. She can’t distance herself from this by hiding behind Councilman Marte. @NYCCouncil Speaker Menin moved this bill. Speaker Menin twisted arms to get Council members to sign on to it. And Speaker Menin fast tracked it. All while remaining absolutely silent about the real public safety menace of E-Bikes, scooters and other two-wheeled motorized vehicles, which have caused more than 30 deaths in NYC on her watch. @TwuSamuelsen
Transitioning away from horse-drawn carriages in Central Park is the responsible path to take.
With Romanch’s Law, the Council is focused on doing just that, while also supporting the workers — creating pathways to new employment opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
When workers are attacked by politicians and we fight back in defense of our livelihoods, politicians do not get to play the victim. @JulieMenin unscrupulously exploited a tragic fatality in Central Park and used it to try to destroy 170 mostly immigrant Carriage Driver jobs. TWU workers will Fight Back against anyone, including the politically opportunist City Council Speaker, who attacks our ability to take care of our families.
More so, it is an expose on the glaring opportunism and hypocrisy of @JulieMenin and her minions on the city council, and other mostly Manhattan Meninite career politicians like Keith Powers and Brad Holyman, who jumped onto the immigrant job-killing bandwagon because they thought it was politically expedient.
No City Counsel, wow my mistake , he’s still a performative , sanctimonious hypocritical opportunistic politician , latching onto a moment of absolute tragedy to destroy 170 largely immigrant jobs . All while completely ignoring death and maiming in Manhattan by E-Bike because … well , you know why. And thanks for the advice but we will spend our money exposing these hypocrites and betrayers . Imagine , @TheDemocrats is now the party that destroys immigrant jobs , the American Dream and 68 small businesses all in one felt swoop. Like a smarmy Triple Crown. But I get it , you gotta defend .
In 2026 Manhattan has suffered four deaths from collisions involving E-Bikes, with another
169 people injured and maimed . Where’s hypocritical Brad Holyman’s detailed report on this public safety scourge ? Oh wait , Brad didn’t see any way to exploit a tragedy or any moment for political opportunism by issuing reports on E-Bike fatalities. In fact as a NYC Councilman and now Manhattan Borough President @bradhoylman has been absolutely silent on these deaths and injuries . This is just more performative political expediency from another same old tired shite career politician who is all sanctimony and no substance as he attacks 150 immigrant families struggling to survive in the midst of an unprecedented affordability crisis in NYC . @CentralLaborNYC@transportworker@TWULocal100
New: A corporate entity co-founded by Council Speaker Julie Menin's husband owes NYC more than $246,000 in back taxes — an awkward revelation for Menin, who criticized Mamdani for how he handled the city government's cash flow problems. https://t.co/NPpEO0KKM7
.@TWULocal100 horse carriage drivers thank the @NYCCouncil members who are standing with them and refusing to sign onto an anti-worker bill that provides no guarantees of employment or compensation for having their livelihoods ripped away.
Councilwoman Encarnación has signed onto the carriage-horse ban bill - which would eliminate the jobs of about 200 IMMIGRANT WORKERS and economically devastate their families. There are NO GUARANTEES of other jobs. A true champion for immigrants would assist and uplift, protect their jobs and help them succeed with their American Dream, not sponsor their economic collapse . @TwuSamuelsen
As a fierce advocate of community leadership and a District 8 native, Deputy Whip Encarnación has used her role to champion the needs of immigrants, young people, NYCHA residents, and so many others since she began this year, and she's only just getting started!
TWU International President John Samuelsen with a textbook indictment of a politically ambitious @NYCCouncil Speaker, @JulieMenin, who is moving to wipe out the jobs of an overwhelming immigrant workforce, rather than address any safety concerns by actually governing, thinking it will advance her career. NYC Council Members: Why sign onto a carriage-horse ban bill that has ZERO guarantees of employment or compensation for blue-collar drivers and small business owners?
The Speaker @NYCCouncil is using the power of her office to strong-arm Members. She’s trading future favors get more Members to sign onto this deficient bill. Resist. With E-Bikes maiming more New Yorkers then horse carriages ever did or will - you know it’s not public safety. With no real protections for the horses themselves it’s not possibly about animal fare either.
If the E-Bikes were housed in stables occupying valuable Manhattan real estate , things would most assuredly be different . There would be well funded opposition to the E-Bikes , including several champions on the NYC Council and across NYC Politics, like the Manhattan Borough President for instance , all speaking up on a daily basis about the consistent maiming inflicted upon New Yorkers in Central Park and beyond . But no such luck. The E-Bikes don’t occupy valuable real estate , so elected officials don’t care about the havoc they wreak. @CentralLaborNYC@transportworker@NYCMayor
Thank you to the TWU of America locals and state conferences for standing with your @TWULocal100 brothers and sisters in the horse-carriage industry today. More than 90 TWU members from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut joined L100 in a fantastic show of solidarity against an injustice.
A campaign - funded by NYC real estate developers who are interested in developing land where the stables are located - has advanced legislation banning carriage horses. Thank you for answering the call. @TwuSamuelsen
. @ChrisMarteNYC seems awfully disinterested as he destroys the livelihoods of 150 blue-collar carriage drivers, but that’s no surprise. He never showed any interest in the extreme negative impact this carriage-horse ban bill would have on working families. @TwuSamuelsen
