The Battle of Mogadishu (known as Black Hawk Down) started on this day 33 years ago on October 3, 1993.
An elite team of roughly 100 Delta Force operators and Army Rangers found themselves fighting a city of a million people.
They fought to the bloody and brutal end, and their heroic actions will never be forgotten.
They Tied the PJ to a Stretcher
In Mogadishu, Rangers tied MSGT Scott Fales to a stretcher to keep him from making his wound worse.
He untied himself and got back into the fight.
On October 3, 1993, the Air Force pararescueman fast-roped into the first Black Hawk crash site with the combat search and rescue team. Their helicopter took an RPG hit while the rescuers were still coming down.
Fales was shot in the leg shortly after reaching the ground. He dressed his wound, established a casualty collection point, treated wounded Rangers and helicopter crewmen, and continued providing covering fire. At one point, he gave himself an IV to avoid going into shock.
He received the Silver Star and Purple Heart, but his work continued after Somalia.
The team’s rescue equipment in Somalia included tools designed for automobile crashes. They proved poorly suited to cutting through aircraft wreckage. Fales helped turn that experience into changes in rescue equipment and training.
Getting the wounded home meant treating them that night and better preparing the next rescue team.

WHEN YOU REMEMBER BLACK HAWK DOWN, REMEMBER THE SOLDIERS WHO FOUGHT THEIR WAY IN. 🇺🇸
October 3–4, 1993. Mogadishu.
Rangers and Delta operators were pinned down. Americans were wounded. Two Black Hawks were down.
The 10th Mountain Division answered the call.
The Golden Dragons of 2-14 Infantry, alongside attached infantrymen and engineers, fought through ambushes, barricades, and heavy fire. Malaysian armored vehicles and Pakistani tanks helped the rescue force reach the trapped Americans.
This wasn’t a convoy rolling in after the fighting stopped. They fought their way in and helped get the wounded and survivors out.
SGT Cornell Houston and PFC James Martin lost their lives. More than 20 other 10th Mountain soldiers were wounded.
Remember their names. Remember the men who went back into those streets.

First round finished (about 1.5 hrs ago)! Played as USMC and decimated the PLANMC(my brother in law).
Started by positioning my DDG in defensive range of ground forces, focused fires on destroying PLANMC logistics and then used air defense (through the DDG and MIC battery) to..
