This vision @KemiBadenoch is highly impressive. It is realistic & radical but also optimistic, decent, refreshing & dramatic. It is the first time in 25years or more that a major party leader has spoken honestly & sensibly about what has gone wrong, challenged all sorts of mistakes & orthodoxies perpetrated by both parties for decades, and suggested how to govern & reform this country in this turbulent new era. Its no surprise that this was in part inspired by chats w the late brilliant Sir Alex Younger. No wonder Kemi is so popular as a leader and this confirms why…
Labour ▶️ Conservatives
The LEADER of the Labour Group at East Riding of Yorkshire Council has just defected to the @Conservatives ! 🚨
Welcome to the party of common sense, Cllr Steve Gallant. 🤝🤝🤝
Reform says abolishing inheritance tax is “morally wrong”. I think it is morally wrong to punish people for doing the right thing - spending a lifetime working, saving, building up a business or a home to pass on to the next generation.
That’s why I’ve asked my team to explore fiscally responsible ways to do address this burden. The people caught by inheritance tax are mostly home-owning middle-class families due to house price inflation, diligent savers, and small-business owners.
The super-wealthy can afford trusts and sophisticated tax planning or move abroad.
Reform claims to be the party of working people, but its financial backers like Christopher Harborne don’t need to worry about ordinary inheritance tax planning, because they keep money in crypto or out of the country.
Unlike Reform, I want ordinary families to be able to build generational wealth, not just the super-rich who can do so now. But we won’t make any announcement till there’s a clear plan.
The Conservative Party has always drawn support from people who work, save, build businesses and acquire a stake in society. Yes, that will sometimes include wealthy people. I make no apology for that. But it also includes millions of people who have worked hard, paid their dues and want what they have built to benefit their children, their communities or the causes they care about.
We are on their side.
To celebrate Tower Of Song…I thought I’d share with you the original Music Video from 2012. Thank you for all the love on the track this past week, it’s been a real pleasure to read and hear your comments on The Voice UK performance. I hope you enjoy the video 🙏
The Mayor of Silema, a small town in Malta, has appealed for witnesses after a man stole his door knob.
What kind of person goes around stealing door knobs?!
Until last week, men over 50 were entitled to a free PSA prostate cancer check. But the government has now decided to withdraw that right. I cannot for the life of me work out what their reasoning might be.
Exactly the same thing in December 25 with @AirFranceFR@KLM, 3 days to get to Argentina, lost bags and 7 months on still no compensation or reimbursement of expenses. Airlines do what they want!
The Sunday Times reports a BA planeload of holidaymakers due to leave T5 at Heathrow for Dalaman, Turkey, were ready to go at 7am Saturday but due to the weather were kept in their seats for a disgusting 8.5hours ( until 3.30pm) having been fed a diet of crisps and water.
The plane appeared to have taxied to a no man’s land where they stayed while the hopeless management decided what to do.
The passengers nightmare wasn’t helped by the fact the first crew ran out of hours and had to be replaced.
The next crew turned up at 2pm but then missed their takeoff slot and BA finally “ free” the holidaymakers who then discovered there wasn’t another Dalaman plane until Tuesday.
Totally unacceptable that the holidaymakers spent 8.5hours trapped in the plane and I want to know why they couldn’t be returned to the terminal.
I suspect because it didn’t suit BA. I hope the passengers sues the arse off them.
My daughter lost this bangle today 29/4/26 pm at or near Sloane Square tube. It is very sentimental, she is 6 months pregnant and utterly heartbroken - hearing her sob on the phone was dreadful. Do your thing X - I know it would be a miracle but we live in hope that someone may return it.💛
2 weeks ago @British_Airways bumped me from my flight after check in bc they’d oversold it & didn’t tell me. I spent 18 hours in Istanbul airport, missed tickets to watch the historic England women rugby match & lost money. Still yet to hear anything back - honestly disgraceful
Hi @sainsburys can you get in touch please two Sundays ago, one of your delivery drivers crashed into my van and drove off.
I had to chase him down the road at 7.30am to get details.
No one has been in touch and I’m left with a broken work van this needs sorting out #sainsburys
Just had one of those somewhat depressing reminders of the capriciousness of life. It's absolutely pouring, and I stopped to chat to a homeless chap (who'll remain anonymous), I often pass on my way to work, chat with and help out.
He had a friend with him, also homeless, and when he realised it was me, wanted to ask a question... to be honest I wasn't expecting it to be about pension tracing.
Turned out he was an ex-soldier, been on the streets a few years, but had lots of jobs in the past, and lots of pensions, including some final salary. We went through how to trace them and how to get help and he took notes.
I asked his age, and was disappointed to find he was only 48, so still far away from being able to get succour from the money that is hopefully in those pensions. He was happy though, to know there was a way to find the money he had sitting somewhere.
I've been thinking about it since. In a way he has money, but no money and no home. He served our country but now sits huddled under the overhang of a street to keep a bit drier.
We discussed shelters and charities that could help, but he was resistant, he didn't like the pressure or mixing in that way.
There is no denouement to this post. No stark moral message. I just thought it worth noting.
