MAJOR LA HAYAT: THE SOLDIER WHO STOOD BESIDE HIS GENERAL UNTIL THE VERY END 🇳🇬🕊️
Some soldiers are remembered for the battles they fought. Others are remembered for the loyalty they displayed. Late Major LA Hayat belongs to the rare class of officers whose name will forever be associated with unwavering devotion, professionalism, and selfless service to Nigeria.
On 21 May 2021, tragedy struck the Nigerian Army when a Military aircraft crashed near Kaduna International Airport. On board was the 21st Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Major LA Hayat, and ten other gallant Military personnel. None survived. It was a heartbreaking loss that shook the Armed Forces and the entire nation.
A Promising Military Career
Major LA Hayat joined the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) as a member of the 56 Regular Course in 2004. Upon graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Economics, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps on 4 October 2009.
From the beginning of his career, he earned a reputation as a disciplined, dependable, and highly professional officer. His calm character, dedication to duty, and leadership qualities made him one of the Army's most trusted young officers.
The Officer Who Never Left His Principal
Major Hayat served as the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru during several appointments, including when the General commanded TRADOC, the Theatre Command in the North East, and later as Chief of Army Staff.
Those who knew them often described their relationship as that of a father and son. Wherever General Attahiru went, Major Hayat was never far behind, faithfully carrying out his duties with absolute commitment. In the end, he remained true to that responsibility, standing beside his principal until their final journey.

• Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
• ADC to the Commander, TRADOC, Minna
• ADC to the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North East, Maiduguri
• ADC/Security Officer to the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division, Enugu

• Passed Junior Staff Course (PJSC)
• Commanding Officer's Course (COC)
His consistent performance and dedication earned him promotion to the rank of Major on 17 September 2017.
A Legacy That Lives On
Although his life was cut short, Major LA Hayat left behind a legacy of courage, honour, loyalty, and sacrifice. He embodied the timeless military values of service before self and proved that leadership is measured not only by rank, but by character.
His story reminds us that behind every senior commander are loyal officers whose quiet sacrifices often go unnoticed. Major LA Hayat was one of those men.
May Almighty forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and continue to comfort the families of all the brave personnel lost in the 21 May 2021 air crash. Their sacrifice in the service of Nigeria will never be forgotten. 🇳🇬🕊️

Viral clip shows Naval Officer Lt. Yerima being stopped by police in Abuja for allegedly driving with a covered number plate and tinted windows.
Meanwhile, Minister Wike’s aide Lere Olayinka has dismissed the officer’s assassination-attempt story, insisting he was only held for the traffic offense and later exaggerated it as an attack.
It’s disappointing that in 2025, we’re still talking about zoning instead of competence. Leadership should be about capacity, vision, and results not whose “turn” it is. Hearing a politician promote such thinking is a shame. Nigeria deserves better 🇳🇬
