Air Quality Warning for Mississauga

Environment and Climate Change Canada, and the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks issued an Air Quality Warning due to wildfire smoke for Mississauga (Region of Peel).

Poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke can be harmful, particularly for vulnerable populations and those with respiratory and heart disease. Symptoms may include eye and throat irritation, runny nose, headaches, difficulty breathing, wheezing (including asthma attacks), severe cough, dizziness, or chest pains. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.

Protect yourself:
- Stay hydrated
- Take breaks inside if you're working outdoors
- Reduce or reschedule outdoor activity
- Keep windows and doors closed if indoor temperatures are comfortable and set HVAC to recirculate
- Run the fan mode on your ventilation system and put the system on recirculate, avoid using an air purifier that generates ozone
- Check on neighbours and loved ones
- Avoid chemicals that affect air quality by choosing less-toxic cleaners, paints, finishes and glues labeled “VOC-free”, “zero-VOC” or “low-VOC”
