The Appeal Board called the initial FA sanction of a six-point suspended points deduction “excessive” because the club did not gain a sporting advantage during the period in question.

£10m fine is also consistent with Chelsea’s EPL settlement.

Chelsea did not breach PSR and also self-reported the historical issues. This was a mitigating factor. Chelsea’s level of cooperation is termed “exceptional”.

There's a key paragraph at the end of the decision that sets out the Appeal Board's justification for quashing the points deduction:

“The misconduct may never have come to light but for the self-reporting; the exceptional co-operation on the part of the Club; the fact that it occurred under the Club’s previous owner, without the knowledge of the current owners; [and] that the Club did not gain a sporting advantage over the relevant period.”

Dear football,

Today, I want to share with you that this season will be my last as a professional footballer. After so many years living my dream, I feel it’s time to start a new chapter in my life.

Being honest, even though I have been preparing myself for this moment, I found it hard to write this letter. After 20 seasons , many people have played an important role in my career.
