It's amazing how after reading two good books on a topic it feels like you understand 80% of the subject. But after reading 5 more books and 100+ papers, you feel like you understand an incredible 82% of that subject.

From my introductory anthropology course today:
Q- Why would a population have a high number of people who are carriers of the sickle-cell trait?
A- "the sickle cell trait is prone to poor people"

This is why anthropology courses should be mandatory.

Finishing your PhD in a timely manner is important. However, if you're in year 1 or 2 of your PhD and your only obsession is "finishing quickly", you're setting yourself up for an unhappy graduate school experience.

@HumBehEvoSoc This perpetuates many "noble savage" myths. Notably, the idea that the Hadza have no worries.

For context: infant mortality is ~20% in the first year and only 50% of newborns survive past the age of 15. They have worries, they just hide them from the tourists.
