UPDATE: The High Court in Masaka has set September 22 for the hearing of an election petition challenging the victory of Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere. Before Justice Bernard Namanya, petitioner Rose Nalubowa’s lawyers, led by Samuel Muyizzi, said they want court to determine whether the vote recount that declared Namere the winner was lawfully conducted. The petitioners intend to cross-examine seven witnesses, including Nameere, while the respondents plan to cross-examine 10, including Nalubowa. Nameere’s lawyer Sam Ssekyewa also challenged the petition’s fitness to proceed, saying he would raise the matter during the hearing.
