Big milestone passed this week, we have now recruited over 50% of our internal pilot trial participants. Fabulous work being done at our participating NHS sites KCH, Midlands, Royal Free, Grampian, Ayrshire & Arran, and Lanarkshire. Thank you ๐ @lindsaybearne@Mandy_Sekhon
Our trial of gait rehabilitation tailored for people with a foot problems in early (<2years) #rheumatoid#arthritis is live and recruiting patients at 7 NHS sites across the UK. If your rheumatology service would like to get involved please contact [email protected] 1/2
GREATStrides need NHS sites to host their main trial. This intervention could improve lower limb function. Contact [email protected], and learn more here: https://t.co/a46Ay8CVdk @trialGREAT@gordon_hendry
๐ฌ We have preliminary evidence the #GREATStrides gait rehabilitation intervention for patients with early RA can help preserve walking ability. Sites are needed to host the main trial to prove the treatment works. Learn more: https://t.co/sc2AwXIzcp @trialGREAT@gordon_hendry
The GREAT feasibility study evaluating gait rehabilitation in early rheumatoid arthritis has been published today in BMC Pilot and Feasibility Studies (open access). Have a read here: https://t.co/Qdej05i5bn
Gait rehabilitation underpinned by psychological techniques delivered by podiatrists & physios feasible, acceptable & safe for people with early rheumatoid arthritis: https://t.co/96vn3sc0HO @ClydeCloggie@aimie_patience@Mandy_Sekhon@lindsaybearne@TrialGreat @ProfJimWoodburn
Almost 2 years to the day that COVID prevented our trial from commencing, today we have randomised our first 2 participants! Thank you to everyone who has helped get us back on track. Well done to our colleagues at Haywood Hospital and @mpftnhs for getting us off the mark ๐
Delighted to share that the #Rheumatoid#Arthritis Foot Disease Activity Index-5 (RADAI-F5) patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) is now on the @eular_org Outcome Measures Library. This resource provides access and useful summary information about the tool and its development.

@Physio_JJ @physiotalk@TrialGreat Also highlights to me as a researcher how highly skilled the physio profession is in offering individualised care in helping patients to meet their rehab needs #physiotalk
@Physio_JJ @physiotalk@TrialGreat 2) As part of my role I train physios in psychological approaches ( motivational interviewing & behaviour change techniques) to help patients adhere the intervention. Feedback from physios to date has been positive - they enjoying applying the skills outside of the trial setting
โก๏ธ The gait rehabilitation programme is simple to set up, conducted at home, tailored to the individual participant, easily adapted and seeks to enhance motivation through behaviour change techniques
โก๏ธ We are actively recruiting new sites to the pilot phase of the trial so if you are interested or would like more info please visit the website (https://t.co/H8NAzPCNw5) or contact a member of the study team:

Did you know:
โก๏ธ The main predictor of walking disability in people with #RheumatoidArthritis is self-reported walking disability at 2 years post-diagnosis?
van der Leeden et al., 2010
โก๏ธ The GREAT intervention combines undertaking repetitive tasks (a walking circuit) with behaviour change approaches (including motivational interviewing) and is delivered by trained #physiotherapists and #podiatrists
