I met Ronnie through his wonderful wife Ina some years ago at the Bear Gallery. Justin looked up to him as a mentor and colleague. Please share widely ❤️
Earlier this week we instrumented 3 clearing histories of a farm in Fairbanks: undisturbed spruce forest, forest regrowth 21 years post clearing and an abandoned field that was cultivated for 17 years and abandoned for 4 years.
The @PermafrostGrown Great Mulch Study is live! We are testing the thermal impacts of 11 mulch types at the UAF Exp Farm with and without crops to assess permafrost thaw and mitigation potential. Prelim obs show a 20C range in ground surface temp! @uafairbanks
🧵 Arctic research is ramping up and we are bringing you along. Join us over the next few weeks as we follow a research team studying how beavers are impacting the Alaskan tundra.

P-Lake is gone!
It drained in late June 2022. I visited that one during my first expedition to #Alaska in 2015 and checked it from time to time

6/ @uafairbanks has incredible scientists, including
Benjamin Jones (who let @bonjomo and me crash at his Teshekpuk Lake research station), Prajna Lindgren, Katey Walter Anthony, Christopher D. Arp and @AlaskaWx - they all helped me understand climate's impact on AK.
A couple of papers published this week from our @NSF_OPP funded project focused on the role of lakes and lake drainage in shaping permafrost landscapes in northern Alaska
