Being in academia is so much more than research and publishing papers! @lifeinmud and myself discuss how life is as two early career researchers w a young son, and how much we benefit from each other and having support from our hosts and @carlsbergfondet

I'm talking at a conference later this year (on UX+AI).
I just saw an ad for the conference with my photo and was like, wait, that doesn't look right.
Is my bra showing in my profile pic and I've never noticed...? That's weird.
I open my original photo.
No bra showing.
I put the two photos side by side and I'm like WTF...
Someone edited my photo to unbutton my blouse and reveal a made-up hint of a bra or something else underneath. 🤨
Immediately, I email the conference host.
(FYI he is a great, respectable guy with 5 kids at home.)
He is super apologetic and immediately looks into the issue.
He quickly reports back that the woman running their social media used a cropped square image from their website.
She needed it to be more vertical, so she used an AI expand image tool to make the photo taller.
AI invented the bottom part of the image (in which it believed that women's shirts should be unbuttoned further, with some tension around the buttons, and revealing a little hint of something underneath). 🤯

FYI the conference organizers were super apologetic and took down all of the content with that photo.
I've stumbled upon 2 boxes of BW photos dating back to WWII of all kinds of things related to the #Arctic I can't wait to take a closer look and start organising them so they can be of use to others - I'm looking at you @aabjoerk @CoastDidier @lifeinmud @TundraTime @mkwardjones🎥
Usually I don’t talk about stuff like this because frankly it happens way too often. But not today…
As I pulled into the same faculty parking lot that I park in all the time @msstate, a white woman was coming out of my office building. Her car was parked next to the space I pulled into.
@HarrisonWind The post-game interview with Jamal, where he was wearing Breonna Taylor and George Floyd on his shoes. That was so much more than basketball ✊🏿
A brief reminder that I have an open, fully-funded, MSc position available starting next year. Details through the link. #geoprivacy

🚨🚨🚨I’m thrilled to announce the launch of the Toxic Prisons Mapping Project, Beta - a participatory research initiative to map the environmental hazards faced by prisons, jails, and detention centers. See https://t.co/2L2pJBe52b & 🧵 below
If you're working on the impacts of mineral extraction on landscapes and societies, consider submitting an abstract to our #AGU24 ⛏️🌎👇#earthscience#mining@AGU_EPSP https://t.co/SxkurW7wcr
@sarahwcooley I'm so sorry for you and the family, Sarah. This is completely unreasonable! The universities should do everything in their power to offer sustainable childcare opportunies - particular as you say, since many of us don't have nearby family to help. Hoping for a little miracle 🤞🏼
If you're going to #AGU2024, consider submitting to our session SY031 'Impacts of Mineral Extraction and Artisanal Mining on Societies and Natural Environments' @KHwave@DrChrisHackney
@ScientistsLift The best advice I got was to not be afraid to ask questions. You're new and no one expects you to know the new system and the university - people are happy to help!
