@nicogrounds To think the ‘framework’ should make it easier for nation state backed to deploy their enormous funds after an era of City dominance and in an era of PSG dominance is very reactionary.
@nicogrounds Newcastle were immediately able to buy top players of Sociedad, Lyon, Everton after take over. It’s hard to catch Utd and Arsenal if you’re mid-table. Chasing after nation state backed teams would be impossible.
@nicogrounds We’re just digesting the fact that the last fifteen years of EPL have been immeasurably distorted by financial cheating. Breaking that teams stranglehold on the best places will make the league more competitive than it has been for a decade.
@Sesas_ City collapse is very deflationary. Think it means everyone will keep powder dry in January. Might be 20 prime players on the market at discount in the summer.
@Footballera0 He’s very very safe and very dull when he’s on Athletic podcast. Puts in so many qualifiers on every statement to the point where he says nothing at all.
@5liveSport@GuillemBalague Imagine if Pep really couldn’t connect the dots between the stated revenue and the actual commercial contracts. Imagine if before he signed he didn’t ask about transfer budget and ask how they could afford so much. You’re saying he’s just dumb. And that doesn’t seem likely.
@nonewthing Stick to talking about how broad peoples shoulders are and their style of running. Leave the real world stuff to people who’ve read some books.
@afc_N7k The moment things got tough this guy folded. No heart. No understanding of variance. No commitment to a journey. Fans can feel however they want, but zero need to pay attention to his feeble attempts at commentary.
@assna_maz@timstillman_ Yeah I mean maybe state owned clubs would pull away from United and Arsenal. But Arsenal and Utd would bury Brighton, Brentford, Leeds. Would really give smaller clubs no chance.
@_Tobolos_@Kingavel If you feel that Brentford and Leeds will never catch United and Liverpool because they have to big a revenue, imagine how hard it will be to catch Newcastle and City if nation states were bankrolling them.
@femooafc@Sup3rbobb Can’t believe there isn’t a way for a British guy to win the 100m at the Olympics. Same old countries. When will I get a shot at the Tour de France.
@mufcjuj@Knifesedge11 Yes. It’s not that oil money will upset some notional ‘cartel’. It’s that funnelling illicit funds allows you to leapfrog other ambitious teams that are building in a sustainable way.
