The not touching the Conference Trophy is a strange tradition, and I love it.

Let's learn more!

It is believed this tradition started with Eric Lindros in 1997. He refused to touch the trophy, but the Flyers still lost in the Final.

The Golden Knights didn't touch it last year, but the Panthers did. Golden Knights won the Cup. But in 2018, Vegas did touch the trophy, and they lost in the Final.

From 2011 to 2015, no team touched either of the conference trophies. In 2016 and 2017, Pittsburgh did touch the trophy and won the Cup both years. Pittsburgh has actually won the Cup five times after touching the conference trophy.

In 2020 and 2021 and 2022, Tampa touched the trophy and won the first two years but lost the third year. Colorado touched the trophy that year, but won the Cup.

Tampa Bay refused to touch the trophy in 2004 and won the Cup as well. In 2006, both Edmonton and Caroline didn't touch the conference trophy, and Carolina won the Cup.

The Cup winners in 2007 and 2008, Anaheim and Detroit, refused to touch the trophy.

Every Stanley Cup winner from 2010 to 2015, also refused to touch the trophy.
In the years 2006, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2019, neither team touched the trophy for their conference.

From 1997 to 2020, among those who touched the conference trophy the record is:

11 Won the Cup and 15 lost in the Final.
