People defending EA’s mismanagement practices just because “BioWare done” and “it’s da end of da LGBT” is certainly a choice. I thought people with a functioning brain generally hated EA’s meddling and studio interference? We’ve spent years slamming EA for fumbling Dead Space, yet suddenly we’re supposed to ignore the publisher that was literally voted “Worst Company in America” two times in a row.
A healthy studio releasing a bad game is one thing. A studio stripped down, hemorrhaging talent, and having its resources squeezed until there’s barely anything left is another. There’s a difference between a studio failing on its own merits and a publisher systematically undermining the people working under it.
As usual…it’s Twitter. Conversations like this are apparently too nuanced for small, agenda-driven minds. That’s why I told someone, “Hey, man, I don’t want to have this conversation with you until you get out of the conspiracy zone.”
What interests me is the why. I want to understand the facts and circumstances behind these situations, and time and time again, we see examples of EA mismanaging studios, interfering with their creative direction, or simply letting beloved IPs die on the vine. And honestly, I never expected things to improve under the Saudi acquisition.
I knew this would ultimately lead to having to play it safe and EA shitting out another Star Wars game as quickly as possible rather than prioritize Mass Effect. This is what happens when you choose short-term profits over creative growth and long-term sustainability. BioWare has been struggling for years, but the question remains: who repeatedly put the studio in this position in the first place? EA.
Ultimately, I believe BioWare is a victim of its own publisher. I will never forgive EA for what it did to Visceral Games, the original Dead Space studio, or Pandemic Studios, the team behind Destroy All Humans! Ever.
This shouldn’t be about celebrating a studio’s downfall. If that’s what you’re doing, you’re engaging in destructive criticism rather than actually examining the situation. And if you turn everything into another culture-war talking point, you’re approaching the conversation with a one-track mindset that leaves little room for nuance or a deeper examination of EA’s own failures.
It’s about looking at the bigger picture and holding the people responsible for these decisions accountable. But apparently, that’s too much to ask when people would rather push an agenda than to have an honest, meaningful conversation.
@MissedAverage I’ve said it before Abdul say it again the people calling her ugly are anime obsessed gooners. To them every female character is just a reason to have a big titted anime girl. Anything less may as well be a man.
EA's complete misunderstanding of BioWare's RPG heritage and a desire for mass market, microtransaction-fuelled action games has robbed us of one of the industry's greats. https://t.co/ahDJp2lhbY
@ForgSolaris I am who I am, but that doesn't mean I want to cram it down everyone else's throat through every possible medium.
Preachy queers who freak out at the slightest inconvenience annoy ME, too...I don't want that in my fictional representation 😅
This “if it’s well done” line is such bullshit. There are a ton of games that do things poorly yet people go out of their way to attack LBGTQ and POC in games. The fact is they are looking for any reason to hate.
@SarahIsAwsm There're few people who are actually against representation, most of us are perfectly fine with it, if it's done well and not in your face.
I said many times, if a character kept humping me with his dialog about how hetero he is, it would be equally as annoying as Taash was.
We have another pick me, every game they claim handled it better also was attacked for this very same topic. Trying to rewrite history after the fact isn't going to slide.
I agree completely with this.
For example, Cyberpunk, BG3 & the Mass Effect trilogy handled representation so much better. The examples are more natural, more mature & better written.
Wokeslop/queerslop ruins games.
We can have representation without hamfisting it.
