Chrystia, this is truly disappointing, particularly coming from you.

Ukraine is too important to be turned into a political football with this kind of disingenuous partisan attack.

You know I share your deep commitment to Ukraine. That I deployed our Armed Forces to Operation Unifier, and much, much more.

You also know that the Conservative votes you refer to above were against Government Estimates, ie over $200 billion of the government’s general spending plans, in which the Ukraine specific elements were embedded.

You know that it is entirely conventional for opposition parties to vote against Estimates to show their disapproval of the government’s fiscal priorities.

In fact, I seem to recall that as an Opposition MP, you voted against Estimates tabled by the Harper government, which would have included funding for training of Ukrainian soldiers, and other support. It would never have occurred to me to accuse you of undermining Ukraine for opposing general Government Estimates.

Finally, you know full well that the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement was negotiated and signed by the Harper Conservative government while Mr. Poilievre and I were senior Ministers. You know that the Conservative opposition objected to your government’s insertion of extraneous issues, (primarily carbon taxes,) in that agreement, but not with the original agreement, or the goal of increased trade with Ukraine.

In fact, the Conservative Party has called on your government to share *more* weapons systems with Ukraine.

Given the growing isolation facing Ukraine, it is frankly irresponsible to suggest that Canada’s largest political party does not support Ukraine, when that is manifestly not the case.

I understand you’re in the middle of a campaign, but Ukraine is in the middle of an existential war. Surely we can put partisanship aside and emphasize the broad Canadian support for Ukraine, rather than inventing divisions that don’t exist.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is investigating reports of a tornado in central Alberta. The following video was recorded near Edberg, Alberta 🌪️

Environment Canada also issued a tornado watch for parts of east-central Alberta on Monday afternoon.

Leduc, Camrose, Wetaskiwin, Tofield, Lloydminster, Wainwright, Vermilion and Provost were under the watch. “Conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds and possibly brief, weak tornadoes,” the weather agency said. “Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible.”
