Fantastic news @BradleyVis. Thanks to you and CPC MPs for supporting these important changes for small business. CFIB looks forward to working with you to push the govt to make this happen.
A simpler, more streamlined way to access government services is a win for Albertans. Reducing red tape and making everyday interactions easier is always worth celebrating. 👏 #abpoli
One Card. That’s it.
Starting July 2, Albertans can get a new driver’s licence or ID card that includes their healthcare number and proof of citizenship, all on one secure card at no additional cost.
No more flimsy paper cards. No more carrying multiple pieces of ID. Just a common-sense change that makes life easier.
Alberta has been a leader in the conversation around breaking down internal trade barriers.
That's why it's disappointing to see the May 31 deadline for direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping come and go without full implementation.
Small businesses are eager to see momentum turn into action. We're looking forward to seeing Minister @JosephSchowAB get this across the finish line.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is raising concerns over the lack of transparency and progress of implementing direct-to-consumer (DTC) alcohol shipment policies, despite governments promising action by the end of May. 🔗 For more information, visit:

The federal government has already moved to address affordability concerns by removing the federal fuel tax, while Alberta businesses continue to wait for provincial action.
📻 Listen to CFIB's call for immediate fuel tax relief with @darrenrathwell@citynewscalgary:

Electricity costs are one of the main cost constraints cited by Alberta's small businesses in CFIB's Business Barometer®. It's vital that the City of Calgary ensures electricity bills remain stable, minimizing adjustments to franchise fees and providing notice to ratepayers. #yyc
“Fuel costs are now the top concern for small firms, with 58 per cent ranking them as their biggest challenge—surpassing taxes and economic or political uncertainty,” the CFIB said in a statement Tuesday.

📢 Alberta’s small businesses call for immediate fuel tax relief:
More than 8 in 10 (84%) Albertan small businesses say the Government of Alberta should provide immediate fuel tax relief instead of waiting for a July 1 reassessment, according to an ongoing survey from CFIB.

Good to meet with the Leader of the Opposition @PierrePoilievre & Deputy Leader @MelissaLantsman in Ottawa today. Canada is facing an entrepreneurial drought - with more business closures than openings over the past year.
We spoke to the need for immediate action on tax and regulatory policy to help small businesses succeed.
CFIB continues to call for Edmonton to introduce construction mitigation measures that take into account the fact that the average Canadian small business reports a 40% decline in sales during construction projects. #yeg
While @cityofcalgary finalized a Business-Friendly Construction Policy this year, @CityofEdmonton’s 2026 construction announcement makes no mention of impacts on local businesses—no mitigation, no supports, no plan.
Construction planning should include clear communication, access solutions, and targeted supports to keep businesses open. #yeg
Public construction continues to pose a significant challenge for small businesses. When CFIB surveyed Edmonton businesses in 2025, public construction projects were ranked the 4th most damaging municipal issue next to property taxes, red tape, and crime and safety. #yeg
CFIB's latest InsightBiz Blog shows Alberta's 2% small business tax rate lagging behind, with small business rates averaging 1.6% across provinces in 2026.
As the province looks to a potential surplus, small businesses are looking for a reduction.

On Friday, CFIB spoke with @GlobalCalgary's @DrewStremick on Alberta's May Business Barometer®.
With small business optimism falling, CFIB is calling for immediate fuel tax relief and a reduction in the small business tax rate to promote affordability for entrepreneurs:

Currently, only Manitoba and New Brunswick permit DTC of all Canadian alcohol products, while Alberta permits DTC shipments of BC wine only.
Small businesses deserve clarity on what’s being implemented.
